Paraguay has entered the international robotics arena with PiraBot 2.0, a robot designed by students from the Regional School of Education (CRECE) in the city of Ciudad del Este. What makes this project unique is its inspiration: Guaraní mythology. The robot’s design pays tribute to legendary figures from the national mythology.
The concept comes from the legend of Tau and Kerana, and their heritage, such as Luisón, Teju Jagua, Jasy Jatere, Kurupi, Mbói Tu’í, Ao Ao, and Moñái. By blending ancestral stories with modern engineering, the team has created a cultural ambassador that represents Paraguay’s identity on the global stage.

The road to Mexico
The Pirabyte team, from the Dr. José G. Rodríguez de Francia Regional Education Centre in Ciudad del Este, made history at the FIRST LEGO League Mexico International Open 2026. The team won First Place for the Robot Performance Award. Also, they became finalists for the Motivate Award. Furthermore, they became the first public institution in Paraguay to qualify for an international FLL event, representing the country with excellence, talent, and teamwork. The recognition highlights their technical skill and precision in programming and execution.
The journey to Mexico was made possible through local fundraising efforts. The students organised events such as a cocidito solidario, a traditional Paraguayan gathering centred on food, to raise the necessary funds. This grassroots support reflects the community’s commitment to education, innovation, and cultural pride.
PiraMap: Technology serving heritage

In addition to PiraBot, the team developed PiraMap, a digital platform aimed at protecting archaeological heritage. Using satellite imagery and elevation data, PiraMap identifies potential sites without disturbing the land. It features interactive 3D maps, a virtual museum, educational games, and forums for researchers and communities. This initiative demonstrates how robotics and data science can be harnessed to safeguard Paraguay’s cultural legacy.
For Pirabyte, the project is more than a competition entry. It is a symbol of national creativity and resilience, carrying Paraguay’s myths into an international arena. By merging Guaraní mythology with robotics, they have shown that innovation can be deeply rooted in cultural heritage. Their official Pirabyte Instagram has documented their journey, sharing updates and gratitude to supporters back home.
