Athlete Sergio Villasanti opened his remarkable weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, organised by AJP, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu calendar. He dominated his division and secured the gold medal. Therefore, setting the tone with a commanding performance against a strong international field.
His momentum continued at the Rio Winter International Open, organised by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). Villasanti once again stood on top of the podium after another confident display, proving his consistency across different competitions and maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the tour.
The final challenge came at the Rio Winter International Open No-Gi, where competitors fight without the traditional kimono. Villasanti adapted seamlessly to the different format and claimed his third consecutive gold medal. The athlete completed a flawless weekend with triple Jiu-Jitsu gold, establishing himself as one of the standout athletes of the international competition.
Young talents continue to impress
Paraguay’s younger competitors also left their mark in Brazil. Arturo Lezcano won the gold medal in the Kids division at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, displaying confidence and technical skill against international opponents. He followed that success with a silver medal at the Rio Winter International Open, demonstrating impressive consistency across consecutive tournaments.
Fabricio Villasanti, Sergio Villasanti’s son, also enjoyed an outstanding campaign by reaching the podium in every event he entered. He earned a silver medal at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam before repeating the achievement at the Rio Winter International Open. He concluded the tour with another silver medal at the Rio Winter International Open No-Gi.
