Flybondi, Argentina’s first low-cost airline, announced on 4 December 2025 the start of the process to obtain its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from Paraguay’s National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC). This process is a key step towards officially operating as Paraguay’s flag carrier.
This decision is part of the company’s regional expansion plan. The proposal aims to grow in Latin America, and consolidate its presence in strategic markets. “For us, Paraguay is a market with great potential, which will undoubtedly allow us new connections and opportunities. We hope to begin operations under the Paraguayan flag in the first half of 2026,” states Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi.
35 new aircraft
In line with this initiative, the airline presented its five-year fleet plan. The plan anticipates the addition of up to 35 new aircraft, with an estimated investment of US$1.7 billion. A strategic portion of these aircraft will be allocated to future operations in Paraguay.
The announcement coincides with the start of regular flights between Argentina and Paraguay, via the Buenos Aires-Asunción route, inaugurated recently. Additionally, starting 12 December, Flybondi will add the Córdoba-Asunción route, strengthening regional connectivity.
Paraguay as a regional hub
Paraguayan President Santiago Peña celebrated the announcement on his social media: “Paraguay is becoming a regional hub, and Flybondi joining as a flag carrier is a very important step towards our goal of a country that is increasingly connected and integrated into the world. Welcome to Paraguay!” he stated.
Flybondi also publicly expressed its enthusiasm: “Hello, Paraguay! In December, we began flying the Buenos Aires-Asunción and Córdoba-Asunción routes. And now we have begun the air operator certification process with DINAC to start flying as Paraguay’s flag carrier,” the company posted.
With the start of the process to obtain its Paraguayan AOC, Flybondi marks a milestone in its expansion in the region. This opportunity opens a new stage for the country’s air connectivity. The process is aligned with the objective of positioning Paraguay as a strategic point of integration in South America.
