Avianca will begin flying daily between capitals Asunción and Bogotá. The Colombian airline currently flies the route three times a week, with the new daily service starting in late October 2026. The move is part of a wider expansion across the Southern Cone. Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, will also move from four weekly flights to a daily service.
Avianca said the increase responds to growing demand from travellers in the region ahead of the summer season.
A fundamental step for regional connectivity
The additional flights between the Paraguayan and Colombian capitals will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft, each with a capacity of 180 passengers. This gives the route a notable boost in available seats.
David Alemán, Avianca’s sales director for South America and Colombia, addressed the change in a statement released by the airline. He said Avianca was pleased to raise capacity in Asunción and Montevideo to a daily flight in each city. He called the move a fundamental step in strengthening connectivity from two key markets in the region.
Connecting Asunción to a wider network via Bogotá
The daily service will continue to connect Asunción’s Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, located in the city of Luque, with Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport. El Dorado is one of Latin America’s busiest hubs. From there, passengers can reach more than 80 destinations across 25 countries in the Americas and Europe. Avianca operates over 700 daily flights across a network of 155 routes worldwide.
The airline said the expanded service would allow Paraguayan travellers to reach international destinations more efficiently. This would reduce reliance on costly stopovers elsewhere on the continent.
The broader reach is particularly relevant for passengers travelling onward to North America and Europe. Bogotá functions as a major connecting point within Avianca’s network. It joins other recent additions to Paraguay’s air links, such as JetSMART’s first direct route between Asunción and Rio de Janeiro.
For Paraguay, a country with limited direct long-haul options, an additional daily gateway to the north offers greater flexibility. Business travellers, in particular, are expected to benefit from the wider range of daily departure and arrival times.
Responding to demand from the tourism sector
Avianca said the increase addresses a long-standing request from frequent travellers and Paraguay’s tourism sector. These groups had called for greater flexibility in flight schedules and more available seats. The change follows a record year for passenger numbers at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. Growing traveller numbers have placed pressure on the country’s air travel infrastructure. Demand for international travel from Paraguay typically increases ahead of the Southern Hemisphere summer.
Tickets for the new daily frequencies are already on sale through Avianca’s website, mobile application, contact centre and travel agencies. Fares on the route vary depending on travel dates, demand and seat availability. These are updated dynamically on Avianca’s booking platform.
