The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) has officially confirmed a landmark 15-round calendar for its 2027 season, featuring the return of events in the United States and the United Kingdom, alongside a new rally in Italy. Paraguay and Chile will also feature, forming a South American double-header.
Paraguay will once again be part of the world calendar with the Rally del Paraguay, taking place from 21 to 24 October 2027 on dirt roads, marking the thirteenth round of the championship. The expanded schedule was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council and coincides with the introduction of new WRC27 technical regulations designed to reshape the sport.
A new era for the championship
The 2027 season will mark a significant turning point for the WRC. New technical regulations, known as WRC27, will be implemented with the aim of reducing costs, increasing participation from manufacturers and independent teams, and creating new competitive opportunities. These regulations are part of a broader strategy to secure the championship’s long-term future.
The season will commence with the traditional Rallye Monte-Carlo from 21 to 24 January, 2027. It will then proceed through a series of established events in Sweden, Kenya, Croatia, the Canary Islands, and Japan. Following these rounds, the championship will move to Greece before embarking on its new and returning European events.
United States and United Kingdom make their return
A major highlight of the calendar is the return of the WRC to the United States for the first time since 1988. The Rally US, a gravel event, is scheduled for 26 to 29 August. This move is seen as a strategic opportunity to expand the WRC’s international presence in one of the world’s most significant automotive and sports markets, strengthening ties with manufacturers like Ford, as well as with commercial partners and American fans.
The United Kingdom will also host a world championship round for the first time since 2019. Rally Scotland, based in Aberdeen, will take place from 30 September to 3 October. Organised in collaboration with Motorsport UK and supported by the Scottish Government, the event will utilise the region’s renowned forest gravel roads.
New challenges in Italy and South America
Italy will introduce a new asphalt rally to the calendar. The Rally d’Italia is scheduled for 8 to 11 July and will be based in the Lazio region, featuring a central hub in Rome. The event will draw on experience from the FIA European Rally Championship, combining demanding asphalt stages with the historic backdrop of the Italian capital.
Paraguay will once again be part of the world calendar with the Rally del Paraguay, taking place from 21 to 24 October on dirt roads. This event will be the thirteenth round of the championship. It will be followed by the Rally Chile Biobío from 4 to 7 November, creating a new South American double-header before the season finale.
