Paraguayan Guitarist Berta Rojas To Be Honoured Among The World’s Best In Spain

Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas will receive one of the most prestigious recognitions in the world of classical guitar in 2026. The internationally acclaimed musician is set to receive the Honorary “José Tomás Guitarist” Prize in Petrer, Spain. The announcement confirms her position as one of Paraguay’s most celebrated cultural ambassadors.

The distinction is part of the José Tomás International Guitar Festival. The ceremony is an annual gathering that attracts leading performers, composers, and educators from across the globe. Known for its artistic excellence, the festival has become a key platform for showcasing the evolution of classical guitar.

A global stage for Classical Guitar

From 11 to 25 July, the 2026 edition of the festival will bring together some of the most prominent figures in classical guitar. Over the course of two weeks, audiences will enjoy a diverse programme featuring concerts, competitions, masterclasses, and lectures. These activities are designed to encourage dialogue between established artists and emerging talents.

Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas is scheduled to appear on 22 July, when she will perform before receiving her award. The ceremony will take place at the Obra Social Caixapetrer auditorium, marking one of the festival’s most anticipated moments.

This 2026 edition is held under the theme “Legacy”. The festival pays tribute to José Tomás Pérez Sellés, a central figure in the development of Spanish guitar technique during the second half of the 20th century. His influence continues to shape generations of guitarists worldwide.

Berta Rojas: a guitarist marked by excellence

Widely regarded as an ambassador of classical guitar, Berta Rojas has built an international career defined by artistic excellence and cultural impact. Reflecting on the recognition, she expressed both surprise and gratitude. Two years later, she joined the Board of Directors of the Latin Recording Academy, reflecting her influence within the global music industry.

Berta Rojas currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music, where she mentors the next generation of musicians. Her commitment to education also extends to Paraguay, where she has led initiatives aimed at expanding access to classical guitar.
