Itaipu Binacional officially delivered the first stage of the Neighborhood Park in Hernandarias, known as Parque Barrial, located in area 6, Costanera de Hernandarias, Alto Paraná department. This project, with an approximate investment of G 4,000 million, seeks to boost local tourism and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region.
The new site offers the community a space designed for sport, recreation and contact with nature in a safe and accessible environment.
The infrastructure includes a 650-meter sports trail and a 70-meter access road that connects the park areas. In addition, it has 1,500 square meters (m2) of children’s play areas, with spaces divided by age and an inclusive area adapted for people with disabilities.
The park also has 16 rest areas equipped with double benches and trash cans, designed to provide comfort to visitors, Itaipu reported.
It is worth noting that embankments were built for the construction of the road above the maximum undoubted height, a 30-meter bridge and a storm drain system to channel rainwater.
To ensure the safety of users, 43 m2 of surveillance area was created and sanitary facilities were built with two gendered and inclusive bathrooms of 52 m2, including six showers, two changing rooms and four sinks. Lighting and other details complement this green space, thus creating an ideal environment for the community.
During the inauguration, the Paraguayan general director of Itaipu, Justo Zacarías Irún, expressed his satisfaction at seeing the positive impact of the work on the city and highlighted the commitment of the Binational to support projects that promote urban and social development. He emphasized the importance of continuing to work together with local authorities and the Government of Paraguay to carry out additional works that respond to the needs of Hernandarias.
The local mayor, Nelson Cano, thanked the Binational and the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, for the construction of this public space. He asserted that the park represents a place of recreation and meeting for the families of Hernandarias.
The mayor also mentioned future works to be undertaken in coordination with the Government of Paraguay and other entities, in order to continue the comprehensive development of the city.
Also participating in the event were departmental councillors, representatives of the Itaipu Coordination Directorate, and residents of the local community, who valued this collaboration that promotes tourism and community life in the town of Hernandarias.
