New Crossing Requirements At Integration Bridge From 3 November 2026

Paraguayan and Brazilian residents of four border cities will face new documentation requirements when crossing the Integration Bridge from 3 November 2026. The measure applies to private vehicles travelling between Presidente Franco, Paraguay, and Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. Authorities announced the changes to clarify border procedures, with requirements depending on passengers’ nationality and residence.

The new Integration Bridge crossing requirements cover residents of Presidente Franco, Ciudad del Este and Hernandarias in Paraguay, alongside Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil. Drivers and passengers must carry valid travel documents and, depending on their circumstances, additional proof of residence or a border pass.

Documents required according to residence

Paraguayan citizens living in Presidente Franco, Ciudad del Este or Hernandarias must present a valid passport or identity card. They must also carry the Documento de Tránsito Vecinal Fronterizo (Border Neighbourhood Transit Document), known as DTVF. Applicants must obtain this document through Brazil’s Federal Police in Foz do Iguaçu.

Meanwhile, Paraguayans residing in Foz do Iguaçu must present valid travel identification and proof of residence in Brazil. They do not need an additional DTVF. Similarly, Brazilian citizens living in the three Paraguayan cities must show valid identification and their Paraguayan immigration residence document.

However, Brazilians residing in Foz do Iguaçu must present valid travel identification alongside a DTVF issued by Paraguay’s National Directorate of Migration. These distinctions form the basis of the updated Integration Bridge crossing requirements.

Authorities also require every vehicle occupant to carry the appropriate documents. Furthermore, passengers travelling with children under 18 must provide the additional authorisations and documentation required for minors.

Where to obtain the border transit document

Brazilian residents of Foz do Iguaçu can apply for the DTVF in person at the National Directorate of Migration’s admissions office in Ciudad del Este. The office operates on Avenida Rogelio Benítez, near 4 de Mayo Street, under the Directorate General for Foreigners.

The application costs ₲74,929 (approximately US$13), following the principle of reciprocal fees between both countries. Applicants should also consider the processing period, as authorities issue the document within 72 working hours.

Conversely, Paraguayans living in Presidente Franco, Ciudad del Este and Hernandarias must request their DTVF through Brazil’s Federal Police in Foz do Iguaçu.

Crossing hours and travel restrictions

The private vehicle crossing operates daily, from 07:00 to 13:00, exclusively for residents of the four designated border cities. The arrangement covers light vehicles but does not permit motorcycles.

Additionally, the crossing does not allow commercial goods shipments or the standard baggage allowance regime. Authorities only permit essential household goods classified as subsistence products under Mercosur’s Agreement on Linked Border Localities.

The Paraguayan-Brazilian Joint Commission agreed on the updated Integration Bridge crossing requirements during a meeting on 20 October. Representatives gathered at Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service headquarters in Foz do Iguaçu to discuss border procedures.

Residents planning to use the bridge should check their documents before travelling. Preparing the required paperwork in advance can help prevent delays and facilitate cross-border journeys.
