Construction For The Bioceanic Bridge Access Road In Paraguay Begins

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has begun the first interventions for the consolidation of the access road to the Bioceanic Bridge. This is a strategic project for regional integration in North-Eastern Paraguay. The initial works include dredging and earthworks, which are fundamental for the development of this new road infrastructure.

Construction of the access road on the Eastern side

The project involves the construction of the road access to the international bridge over the Paraguay River, which will link the towns of Carmelo Peralta, Paraguay, and Porto Murtinho, Brazil. Additionally, the undertaking includes the improvement of the city’s main avenue, a partial intervention of the Costanera Avenue, and the construction of two embarkation ports.

Additionally, lanes with similar characteristics to those of the Central Bioceanic Corridor will be added. This component will be specifically added on the Carmelo Peralta – Cruce Centinela – Mariscal Estigarribia – Pozo Hondo stretch.

Special emphasis is being placed on the management of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Furthermore, emphasis is being made on the analysis of access road points and their connection to the international bridge. These works and analyses are considering both the local impact and the general area of influence of the project.

Pavement work

Key tasks include the asphalt paving of 3.8 kilometres of the access road, from the Bioceanic Bridge to the PY15 route. Additionally, earthworks, construction of reinforced concrete box culverts, and improvements to signage and lighting will be realised. In addition, these works will all be supported by specialised technical studies.

The initiative is funded by Itaipú Binacional and was awarded to the Consorcio Vial de Integración, comprising the companies Tecnoedil S.A. Constructora and TL S.A. Total investment is amounting to close to 126B Gs. The goal is to have the work done in a period of 12 months. The supervision of the works is being carried out by Consultora Guaraní S.A. Ingenieros Civiles. The contract worth a total of 1,67B Gs, with an expected duration of 14 months.

Simultaneously, socio-environmental and safety teams from both the contractor and the supervisory firm are providing permanent onsite support. The aim is to ensure that the works are executed in accordance with technical specifications and current regulations.
