Mercosur Scientific Journalism Prize: Up to Gs. 10 Million In Awards

The National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) has announced the opening of applications for the eighth edition of the Mercosur Scientific Journalism and Dissemination Prize. This competition is open to journalism professionals and students, photographers, researchers, and amateur science communicators from Mercosur member and associate countries.

The National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) is an autonomous public institution under the Presidency of Paraguay that advises the government on policies for science, technology, innovation, and quality standards. It coordinates and evaluates the National System of Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as the National Quality System, while promoting scientific development through funding and support for research and events.

Mercosur is a regional trade bloc in South America, established in 1991 by the Treaty of Asunción, aimed at promoting free trade and economic integration among its member states.

Theme focus on water, soil, and air

The Mercosur Scientific Journalism Prize aims to promote scientific and technological communication within the region, strengthen the media presence of these topics, and encourage young people’s interest in science communication. This year’s themes focus on water, soil, and air – strategic resources facing increasing challenges due to pollution, agricultural expansion, deforestation, and human activity’s impact on ecological balance.

Participants can submit entries in three categories: written (professional and student), photographic (professional and amateur), and social media (science communicator). Monetary prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners in each category, with certificates of recognition for third place.
