Parque Guasú Metropolitano will host Madrugadores del Parque (Early Birds of the Park) on Sunday, 1 November, 2026. The guided walk will be led by environmental engineer Luis Recalde, an environmentalist and communicator specialising in Paraguay’s natural heritage. From 09:30 to 10:30, participants will explore the park’s wetlands, grasslands and wooded areas to identify native flora and fauna.
Organised by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Paraguay), the free environmental walk will mark the park’s 14th anniversary.
Exploring Parque Guasú’s biodiversity
Located on Av. Madame Lynch in Asunción, next to Parque Ñu Guasú and near Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, Parque Guasú Metropolitano covers approximately 124 hectares. The park provides an important natural refuge for wildlife amid urban development. According to birdwatching records, 289 bird species have been documented in the reserve. This diversity makes the park an important destination for understanding the ecological value of green spaces within the metropolitan area.
Additionally, in July 2022, Law No. 6941 officially declared Parque Guasú a Protected Wild Area under the category of Ecological Reserve. The park’s protected status also provides a framework for long-term conservation. Its management plan for 2025-2035 establishes guidelines for protecting natural habitats, promoting environmental education, and supporting research.
How to participate in Madrugadores del Parque
The activity is free, but places are limited, and advance registration is compulsory. Interested participants must complete the registration form. More information is available on the park’s official Instagram account. Organisers recommend wearing comfortable footwear and bringing a hat. The initiative forms part of the park’s wider efforts to promote environmental awareness and encourage greater appreciation of Paraguay’s natural heritage.
Parque Guasú remains an important destination for recreation and contact with nature in Greater Asunción. Activities such as Madrugadores del Parque offer visitors an opportunity to discover the ecological importance of this urban reserve.
