Paraguay has established itself as one of the fastest growing tourism markets in Latin America, ranking fourth as a source of tourists to Argentina. At a recent Buy Argentina meeting held in Asunción, the tourism offerings of the six Argentine regions were presented. In addition, news was announced about new air routes that will connect Jujuy and Salta, in November and February, respectively, thus expanding travel options for everyone living in Paraguay or passing through.
One of the new features is the opening of weekly direct flights to Argentina and its details. Starting on November 3, the airline Paranair will begin to operate the Asunción-San Salvador de Jujuy route and in February, the Asunción-Salta route. This will allow for an increase in the flow of Paraguayan visitors to northern Argentina.
With a diversified offer, new air routes and the possibility of establishing business contacts, this event represents an opportunity for the development of the tourism sector in both countries.
“We are in a stage of deregulation of air connections and an intensification of flights between the main cities in the north of Argentina and Asunción. This expands the possibilities for travelers coming to Asunción to make combinations that are not possible today, but which will become a reality in the coming months,” said Guillermo Emilio Nielsen, Argentine ambassador to Paraguay.
Visit Argentina , through the National Institute for Tourism Promotion of Argentina, dependent on the Undersecretary of Tourism of the neighboring country, presented Buy Argentina in Paraguay , a tourism marketing and business roundtable space where tourism service providers, airlines, travel agencies and representatives of Argentine destinations meet with local operators to present their tourism proposals for the coming months.
The objective of the meeting was to strengthen commercial ties with the Paraguayan market, attract potential clients and diversify the Argentine tourism offer through the dissemination of new products and experiences. There was also a training session on Argentina aimed at travel agents and tour operators (TTOO), as well as a round of business and spontaneous meetings with local operators.
Paraguay, fourth largest tourist-sending market
Argentina is a very attractive destination for Paraguayans. Macarena Medina, technical analyst at the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (Improtur) of the Undersecretariat of Tourism of Argentina, reported that in 2023, more than 550,000 compatriots chose the neighboring country for tourism, and so far in 2024, 324,000 have already arrived. These figures position Paraguay as the fourth largest tourist market to Argentina. “We are also here to increase Argentina’s tourism offer, so that more Paraguayans visit us and visit more regions of the country. Today, destinations such as Neuquén, Mar del Plata, Jujuy, Salta, Córdoba, Entre Ríos and Mendoza joined us,” she reported.
Argentina’s tourist offer for the coming months is concentrated in six regions: Patagonia, with the beauty of its lakes and mountains in summer; Córdoba with its incomparable mountains and rivers; Cuyo, with the good life around wine; the North, with its colors; the Litoral, with its nature; and the always magical Buenos Aires. The favorite destinations of Paraguayans are: Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes.
