A Paraguayan sportswear company has sent official national team football shirts to a group of children in Uganda following the viral success of their supportive online videos. The children, part of the Hypers Kids Africa foundation, received 42 official kits from the national brand Kyrios after their passionate cheers for Paraguay’s national team captured hearts across the South American nation and beyond.
The young Ugandans became an internet sensation after posting videos of themselves dancing, singing, and enthusiastically encouraging the Paraguayan national team, known as the Albirroja (The White and Red). Their spirited performances were dedicated to supporting the team’s campaign to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In several recordings, the children proudly displayed the Paraguayan flag, which subsequently generated a widespread wave of sympathy and gratitude throughout Paraguay.
A viral sensation across continents
The videos were shared extensively on social media platforms. The children’s genuine joy and energetic support for a team thousands of kilometres away created a heartwarming connection between the two countries. The foundation, which is associated with Shepherds Africa in Uganda, uses dance and music to bring joy and hope to children, and their support for Paraguay became a celebrated example of their work.
This spontaneous display of international fandom did not go unnoticed. The heartfelt messages of support reached the offices of Kyrios, the official supplier of the national team’s kit. Moved by the children’s passion, the company decided to respond to their unexpected encouragement with a gesture of their own.
A gesture of appreciation
Based in the city of Presidente Franco, the sportswear company initiated a plan to send official merchandise directly to the children in Uganda. Kyrios collaborated with Jorge Peralta, a Paraguayan composer currently residing in the United States, to coordinate the logistics of the shipment. Together, they successfully managed the delivery of 42 official football shirts, ensuring the items completed the journey of more than 10,000 kilometres from Paraguay to the foundation in Africa.
The delivery was met with immense excitement and emotion. The children received the kits with great happiness, immediately trying on the red and white striped shirts. They expressed their gratitude by performing their now-famous dances and songs, once again showing their affection for the country that had reached out to them.
A quiet act of kindness
In an interview with the programme Tribuna on Paraguay TV, Kyrios CEO Luis Bogado explained that the initiative was born from a simple desire to give back and was not intended to become a major news story.
“Our intention was absolutely silent and we did not expect it to go viral so quickly.” Bogado highlighted that the gesture was a straightforward response to the children’s touching support.
A symbol of national pride
Furthermore, Bogado noted that the shirts sent to Uganda are from the company’s “Anga Mbarete” collection. The name is from the indigenous Guaraní language and translates to “Strong Soul,” a sentiment designed to inspire both the players and the fans.
According to Bogado, sales for the “Anga Mbarete” line have exceeded 50,000 units within Paraguay. This figure clearly reflects the renewed optimism and deep-seated fervour of Paraguayan supporters as they follow their national team’s progress on the international stage.
