The Andrew Lloyd Webber Festival will bring musical theatre to the forefront of Asunción. On the night of Friday, 3 July 2026, a free concert at the Asunción Municipal Theatre will take place. The event forms part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Stael Ruffinelli de Ortiz – English Institute. This event marks four decades of educational and artistic activity in Paraguay.
The festival will showcase orchestral and choral performances conducted by Sergio Cuquejo, featuring guest artists, choir members, and a live orchestra. Audiences will hear selections from some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most iconic productions, including The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Sunset Boulevard.
Celebration combines music and education

The Andrew Lloyd Webber Festival will be conducted by Sergio Cuquejo, leading the Spirit and Sound Orchestra. Kathryn Kasper will serve as musical director and lead the vocal performances alongside STAEL’S CHOIR. Guest performers Sara Benítez, and Sergio Marcos will also take part in the programme.
Organisers describe the event as a celebration of musical theatre, bringing together orchestral music, choral singing, and solo performances. Tenor José Mongelós, another guest, is also participating in this festival. He has appeared in international events, including the concert “Sounds of the Soul” in Berlin 2025, held at the Ibero-American Institute.
The festival also marks four decades since the founding of Stael Ruffinelli de Ortiz – English. Established in 1986, the institute has combined English language education with artistic and cultural activities throughout its history. Its Music & Arts Conservatory has produced numerous stage productions over the years, including The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Les Misérables, Shrek, and Into the Woods.
The anniversary concert continues that tradition by presenting works from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s catalogue in a live performance featuring musicians, guest artists, and the institute’s choir. The concert will begin at 20:30 on Friday, 3 July 2026. Entry is free, and no ticket purchase is required.
