Taco Dealer: Excellent Mexican Restaurant In Barrio Recoleta

Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, he has been to Taco Dealer, an excellent Mexican restaurant in Barrio Recoleta.

Recently, I have been at an excellent Mexican Restaurant in Barrio Recoleta, the Taco Dealer. It is a very popular establishment in the area, becoming a staple of the neighbourhood culinary scene. Most of the time, when I pass in front, it is full, with people eating on each corner of the intersection! There is a reason for that: it is the best establishment if you are craving Mexican-style food in Asunción! Open your Spotify, play some Vicente Fernández, and walk to Taco Dealer for a great food experience!

Taco Dealer offers Mexican food such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, flautas, totopos, and papitas. You can have beef or pork in your dish and can also ask for the vegetarian option. Food is accompanied by either water, cola, beer, or drinks. I took three tacos of carnitas with a chelada drink. The carnitas contains nixtamalized corn tortilla, cabbage, mayonnaise of morita, smoked and candied pork, and salsa bandera, also known as pico de gallo, which includes chopped tomatoes, onions, with cilantro, and a bit of lime and salt. The chelada is a beer with lime, salt, and ice. I really liked the tacos, especially the pork, which was very tasty, tender, and very well-cooked. I do not like tomatoes and onions in general, but when it is in a “pico style,” I always enjoy it! It was excellent and is closer to the original Mexican taco than what you are served in Canada or the United States in a dry, rigid, and mostly tasteless shell. As for the chelada, it is the perfect drink for the hot weather we are having in Paraguay these days! It is a highly recommended restaurant; you should try it!

This lovely little restaurant has around 25 seats available, inside and outside. If you arrive early, you will be able to sit. The interior has a partial roof on one side, where the bar is located, while it is covered with draperies on the other, where the picnic tables are primarily located. Still, we are not in a country with much rain, so you will not have a problem eating in peace at Taco Dealer! What makes it even better is the music. It puts you in the vibe: Tropical sound from Peruvian flute to Colombian, Mexican, and Argentinian cumbia.

The three tacos are part of a deal: three for 42K Guaraníes, which is slightly over 5 American dollars or Euros. The chelada was priced at 15K Guaraníes, which is just under 2 American dollars or Euros. Taco Dealer has excellent prices, considering the market for Mexican-like food is not as huge as in a country like the United States or Canada for example. The highest price food item on the Taco Dealer menu is the taco, if you take the three, and the cheapest are the flautas at 30K, which is close to 4 American dollars or Euros, totopos and papitas at 20K Guaraníes, which is around 2.50 in American dollars and Euros.

This new trending restaurant is located on Avenida Doctor Toribio Pacheco, halfway between Avenida Choferes del Chaco and Avenida República Argentina. It is located at the corner of Calle Legión Civil Extranjera. If you are driving, you can reach Dr. Pacheco by one of the three other mentions and will reach the establishment easily. Legión Civil goes south, meaning you can turn there from Avenida Mariscal López or even Avenida España, where the street in this sector is General Eugenio Alejandrino Garay. If you come from the south of Barrio Recoleta or Tembetary, you should go north by Charles de Gaulle. There is no official parking, but you can easily walk around the neighbourhood as foreigners tend to move in the area or take an Uber or Bolt if necessary. There are no buses on Dr. Pacheco yet, but in the meantime, you can take one from Choferes, Argentina, López, or Ayala. It is very easy to access Taco Dealer because it is centralised in the new and modern Asunción. As for the opening time, like they say on their social medias, their Tuesdays are like Sundays, and are not opened. They are open every other day of the week for six hours during summer time, and five hours during winter time. Go there and enjoy some great tacos!
