Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, it will be in Ciudad del Este. We will look at an excellent Asian establishment located in Area 1, the Sakura.
Before this trip in early October, I had never been to the Departamento de Alto Paraná. Ciudad del Este was new for me. With approximately 80 nationalities represented in the city, it allows citizens to display and help others discover local cuisine from around the world. Apart from downtown, Area 1 is another place to have good cuisine from around the world. There is a relatively new American-style strip mall in the area, Arena Shops, with some food establishments where our lovely little restaurant is located. I was there with friends during lunch, and there were already many people, showing how popular the restaurant is.
Sakura is an Asian buffet offering food by the kilo. They will weigh your plate and tell you how much you need to pay. You have everything from the noodles to the rice, the egg rolls, the chicken, and the sushi. I personally took a plate with an egg roll, ramen-style noodles, vermicelli, beef, chicken, and vegetables with sweet sauce, accompanied by a bottle of cola. The meats were well-cooked, and the sauces with them were great, the vegetables were tasty and fresh, and the noodles were perfect. It was excellent. It was a magic experience for my palate! Everything on my plate was super delicious and flavourful, and if I had more places, I would have taken more! My friends also told me that they really liked what they ate. From my perspective, their plates — as we have not taken exactly the same thing — also looked incredible. Overall, the food experience is excellent! It is worth the try!

As for the price, I paid around 49K Guaraníes, which is slightly over 6 American dollars or 6 euros. You would probably pay double that price in America for the same amount of food. Here in Paraguay, that cost for a buffet of that type is normal. At the same time, indeed, it depends on how much you want to eat. The more you eat, the more you will pay. You can easily pay with your foreign credit cards without problems, as they have many clients from around the world.
The restaurant is super clean and well-maintained, and the employees are very polite and friendly. It is also well-located, which is convenient, and in a family-friendly environment, which makes it more interesting. I highly recommend you go to the restaurant and try it for yourself! Go there with your friends and family, and you will not be deceived! Ciudad del Este has many excellent Asian restaurants, and this one should be on your list.
The restaurant is located in Area 1 of Ciudad del Este, in the Arena Shops, on Avenida Itaipú Oeste. If you are driving on Ruta PY 02, the most important street in the region, coming from Asunción, turn right on Itaipú Oeste. If you are on the route coming from Brazil and Argentina, turn left on Avenida Mariscal López. Turn left on Los Lapachos and left again on Itaipú Oeste. You can easily take Bolt and Uber to go there, but you can also walk to the restaurant or home, especially if you live downtown. You would avoid being stuck in the traffic.
