Recently, The Asunción Times has been to the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Luque for Aerotax. They are specialised in aviation touring in Paraguay for the last 25 years.
Aerotax is a private aviation company in Paraguay offering a range of services, including air tours and private aircraft rentals for domestic travel. The company handles both office work and flight operations based on client requests. Depending on specific needs, customised budgets can be prepared for chartered flights, considering factors such as the number of passengers, destination, and type of aircraft required.
With Aerotax’s private aviation services, clients can easily access some of Paraguay’s most captivating destinations. Whether flying to the breathtaking Saltos del Monday waterfalls, exploring the vast wilderness of Chaco, or enjoying the serene beauty of Ybycuí National Park, Aerotax offers an exclusive way to experience the country’s natural wonders. For those seeking a combination of relaxation and adventure, a flight to the picturesque Encarnación or the vibrant town of Ciudad del Este provides a unique perspective of Paraguay’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. With Aerotax, the journey is as extraordinary as the destination!
Flight Rental Services
Aerotax provides flexible flight rental services tailored to client preferences. Customers can choose from a variety of aircraft, including:
- A large aircraft with a capacity of 10 passengers.
- A mid-sized aircraft accommodating 7 passengers.
- Smaller aircraft suitable for 5 or 3 passengers.
- Single-engine planes for flight training.
The rental model is based on an hourly rate, meaning that when you rent a plane, it is entirely at your disposal. Clients have complete control over the departure time, return schedule, and the duration of their stay at a destination. Additional fees apply to cover crew accommodation and standby charges if an overnight stay is required. In aviation, when a pilot remains at a destination without flying for an extended period, they are often compensated with a fee equivalent to a certain number of flight hours. This accounts for their time and availability.

Pilot Licensing and Rental Conditions
For individuals holding a pilot’s license, Aerotax offers the possibility of renting an aircraft for personal travel. However, the type of plane available for rental depends on the pilot’s experience and certifications. Single-engine planes are the most accessible for newly licensed pilots, while more complex aircraft require additional training and endorsements. Newly licensed pilots are typically authorised to fly single-engine aircraft. More complex and heavier planes require additional training, as they have different instrument systems, weight handling, and speed limitations. For example, the Cessna 182 has a variable-pitch propeller, making it more advanced than the Cessna 150, which has a fixed-pitch propeller. While the fundamental flying principles remain the same across aircraft, transitioning to larger planes requires additional experience and familiarity with their systems. Nonetheless, once a pilot gains the necessary expertise, they can rent larger aircraft.
Foreign pilots can rent planes as long as they present a valid pilot’s license and any form of government-issued ID. Only an ID is required if the flight remains within Paraguay, whereas international flights require proper customs clearance documentation, such as your passport.
Company Background
Aerotax has been operating for 25 years, soon reaching its 26th anniversary. The company was founded alongside its sister company, Chakair, which has been in operation for 13 years. The founder established both businesses with a vision to offer professional flight training and private air travel solutions in Paraguay. The founder, a former general in the Paraguayan Army, created Aerotax and Chakair as a way to transition from military aviation to civilian education, aiming to train future generations of Paraguayan pilots and aviation professionals. Today, Aerotax continues to serve clients with a commitment to safety, flexibility, and high-quality aviation services. Aerotax strictly adheres to aviation regulations set by the government of Paraguay, the Dirección Nacional de Aeronautica Civil (DINAC), and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards.
