In recent days, Paraguay became the focus of attention for thousands of visitors who arrived to watch the final of the Copa Sudamericana in Asunción. However, beyond the sporting spectacle, what truly captured the hearts of those who came to the country was the Paraguayan hospitality, warmth, generosity and solidarity of the people who call Paraguay home.
Social media was flooded with testimonies that captured the experience of being welcomed in a place where kindness and generosity are often the protagonists. Visitors who had the opportunity to visit Paraguay recounted experiences that ranged from small everyday gestures to unforgettable moments that left a positive image of the country.
Paraguayan hospitality: Receptions worthy of friends and family
Many visitors highlighted the treatment in the homes of the Paraguayans, who spared no effort to make them feel welcome. @juanroleri shared: “We came to the house of my cousin’s partner’s mother. There are 7 of us and she doesn’t even let us buy food or use our towels. It’s impressive. Paraguay, and its more than beautiful people.”
Another similar story was that of @sarabiafacu, who said: “What a luxury the Paraguayan people are, brother. They treated us like royalty. Every two houses there were people waiting for us with hoses to cool us off. Very hospitable. Long live Racing and long live Paraguay.”
There was also no shortage of festive gatherings. @juanroleri also recounted how a barbecue was organised for 17 people at his cousin’s brother-in-law’s house, just to welcome them.
Paraguayan hospitality: Solidarity and warmth in every corner
Paraguayan hospitality was evident on the streets and in unexpected situations. For example, the gestures of the police were a cause for gratitude and amazement: “The police allowed us to shower and use their bathrooms, it was crazy how good they were!” said @lucas_corva.
The warmth of Paraguayan hospitality was also felt in public institutions. @Juampi_Manera recalled how, at the border, officials from the National Directorate of Migration offered water to those waiting to cross the border: “I add: 15 blocks of cars lined up at the border and they brought us water. It is the best country on the planet.”
For his part, @242Pablito highlighted the excellent treatment in the health system after an incident: “Last night one of the people who traveled with me had a domestic accident, we took him to the hospital, you don’t know how well they treated us, tremendous kindness, they gave him medication and we didn’t have to pay anything.”
Even small gestures, like those of a compatriot who took out a hose to cool off fans in the heat, did not go unnoticed. @patomolina said: “There is a divine lady who took the hose out from behind the fence to wet Racing fans who are suffering from the heat. Great lady. Paraguay, a brotherly and generous people.”
Paraguayan food: An unforgettable delight
Paraguay also won over tourists through its gastronomy. @mjarque7 said: “I just confirmed that cassava is the best invention on the planet. Fried, boiled, baked. Thank you Paraguay for everything.”
Paraguayan beef was a hit: @wolframio22 added: “Very tasty beef in Paraguay. Good beer and affordable prices. I’ll be back,” and @loladelcarril mentioned: “Long live Paraguay! A country and people with a big heart. Friendly, hospitable, fun-loving, cheerful. The food is spectacular (great beef) and they don’t rip your head off. They make you feel very comfortable.”
Others enjoyed typical dishes such as chipa guazú. This is how @soymartincasal put it: “Chipa guazú and milangas, officially in Asunción.”
Asunción: An ideal city for large events
The country’s capital was widely recognised as an ideal location for international events. Its organisational skills, along with the warmth of its people, left a lasting impression. According to @mila_scu: “Asunción is the best venue for a Copa Sudamericana final. Neither in Córdoba, Montevideo or Maldonado is this final experienced, it was only seen in 2019 with Colón, precisely there. It is a real party, the Paraguayans are great hosts.”
“I conclude that Asunción is a very good place to hold a final,” added @nicosaralegui.
Meanwhile, @javierlanza summed up: “What a noble city, Asunción. It should be the permanent venue for the final of the Sudamericana. The people are very kind and make you feel very good. The hospitality of the Paraguayans is incredible. They always look for ways to help you. It’s exciting what comes from there in today’s final.”
Paraguayan hospitality: A destination that leaves a mark
Finally, emotion and gratitude for the Paraguayan hospitality were a feeling shared by everyone. @DonRutti said: “I will never forget how they welcomed us in Paraguay. Memory and gratitude forever.”
User @AlmenAlgaba commented: “What wonderful people there are in Paraguay. 37/38 St., and they were waiting for us on the sidewalk with glasses of water, ice, and they were spraying us with hoses. What a pleasure it is to travel so much and feel cared for. Some people should take note of how visitors are treated. Long live Paraguay.”
@Juampi_Manera shared: “Now that I’m about to cross the border, I want to say: what a BEAUTIFUL reception from the people of Paraguay. The quality, the warmth, the good vibes, everyone you passed honked at you or wished you luck. Amazed. It makes you want to go back.”
Paraguay took this opportunity to show the world the best of its people: kindness, solidarity, joy and hospitality. For many, Paraguay stopped being just a destination to become a place they will always carry in their hearts.
