Over One Million Depositors Of Intervened Ueno Bank Paid In Two Days, BCP Reports

According to the Central Bank of Paraguay (Banco Central del Paragua, or BCP), a total of 1,196,000 depositors who held funds in the intervened Ueno bank have already received their money back. This was reported by the interim president of the BCP, Pedro Acosta, following a meeting on Saturday morning, 7 November 2026, with the new President of the Republic, Pedro Alliana.

The figures reflect payments made from the state guarantee fund over a period of two days. Work on the more complex lists of depositors is set to continue throughout Saturday and Sunday.

The first meeting held by President Alliana on Saturday morning involved authorities from the Ministry of Economy, the Central Bank of Paraguay, and the Social Security Institute. The interim president of the Social Security Institute provided details at a press conference from the Government Palace.

Refund schedule and amounts

On the first day of refunds, which was Thursday, depositors with amounts up to 10 million guaraníes were eligible to receive their funds. On the second day, Friday, refunds were issued to depositors with up to 40 minimum wages, or 121,760,000 guaraníes, as established by the law recently passed in Congress.

In these two days of refunds, 1,196,000 accounts were reached. A total of 996 billion guaraníes, equivalent to US$160 million, was deposited into the accounts of the affected individuals.

Weekend access and banking support

The president of the Central Bank of Paraguay thanked the banks that are enabling their branches so that customers who choose to withdraw cash at bank premises can do so even this weekend. This measure is intended to facilitate access for those who prefer physical withdrawal over electronic transfer.

Authorities emphasised that the process remains ongoing and that every effort is being directed towards completing the remaining payments without delay. Further updates are expected as the weekend operations progress.

Pension payments for retirees

For his part, the president of the Social Security Institute, Derlis León, reported that the migration process to eight local banks is currently complete for the 32,000 retirees who received their pensions through the intervened bank. This step ensures continuity of payments for those individuals.

He announced that the work would continue over the weekend, guaranteeing that the 90,000 retirees would receive their salaries and Christmas bonus on 17 November. The commitment is that all eligible pensioners will obtain their full entitlements on schedule.

In turn, the Minister of Economy, Óscar Lovera, stressed that he underscores the priority placed on restoring confidence and delivering timely restitution. He assured that the Central Bank of Paraguay and all public sector entities are working to provide that response as soon as possible.
