Paraguay will take centre stage in continental cycling as it hosts the 2026 Track Cycling Copa América. This international event will be held on 28 and 29 May at the majestic National Track Cycling Centre. The competition is part of a continental series that will bring together the best track cyclists and award points toward the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) ranking.
As a Class 2 (C2) event, the competition will award UCI points valid for the international ranking. Those points are crucial for qualifying for world championships and other top-level events on the international calendar. For two days, the public can enjoy high-level competition where speed, technique, and passion will take centre stage.
A historic Track Cycling Copa América
The participation of delegations from various countries across the Americas is expected. This will be making Asunción a strategic hub for continental cycling during those dates. The organisers are finalising details with the UCI to deliver a top-tier spectacle befitting this historic event for Paraguayan sport.
The inclusion of Paraguay in the 2026 Union Cycliste Internationale calendar reaffirms the growth and strengthening of track cycling in the country. Additionally, this is positioning the nation as a venue for high-level international events.
What is the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)?
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for cycling, headquartered in Aigle, Switzerland. Founded in 1900, it oversees all disciplines of the sport, which includes road, track, mountain bike, and BMX. The UCI is responsible for setting the rules, managing anti-doping programmes, and organising major international competitions like the World Championships. The UCI’s mission is to develop cycling both as a competitive professional sport and as a sustainable means of transport and leisure worldwide.
The 2026 Union Cycliste Internationale season marks the return of a prestigious title, succeeding the “Nations Cup” format used in previous years. This season-long series is critical for athletes as it serves as a primary qualification pathway for the World Championships and the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games. The 2026 edition features three high-stake rounds held across the globe. The first event is held in Perth, Australia (6-8 March), followed by Hong Kong (17-19 April). The 2026 will be concluding in Nilai, Malaysia (24-26 April).
