An exhibition and sale of fresh strawberries, brought directly by producer committees from the Central Department, will take place on 15 August, 2026. from 10:00 to 17:00 in the emblematic pedestrian passage known as La Cuadrita in Asunción. The strawberry fair will be located on Alberto de Souza street, between Cruz del Defensor and Cruz del Chaco in Paraguay’s capital. The initiative provides an accessible space for Asunción families to support the work of Paraguayan farmers.
Annual national strawberry production reaches between 3,000 and 3,500 tonnes from approximately 300 to 400 cultivated hectares, creating opportunities for growth and increased income for agricultural families throughout the country. Areguá and surrounding areas in Paraguay’s Central Department remain the country’s main production zone, known for the highest quality fruit.
Products from fifty local families
Three producer committees from various districts within the Central Department will participate in the event. In total, these committees are composed of 50 families who will be offering their products for sale. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to purchase freshly harvested natural fresh strawberries. In addition, a wide variety of artisanal derivatives will be available, including jams, jellies, liqueurs, juices, tarts, and homemade desserts made from the seasonal fruit.
The La Cuadrita Fair is being promoted by the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG). It is part of a broader policy to support direct commercialisation without intermediaries. This approach ensures a 100% profit margin for the producers. Consequently, buyers gain access to basic products that are both more economical and fresher.
Technicians from the aforementioned government departments are coordinating the logistics for the event. Their role is to guarantee that all food products comply with the highest standards of quality and food safety, starting from the farms themselves.
Paraguay’s 2026 strawberry season
According to Ángel Rivarola, president of the Association of Strawberry and Related Producers of Estanzuela, growers planted approximately 850,000 plants for the 2026 strawberry season. In June, producers expected yields of up to 400 grams per plant and anticipate stronger production levels during July and August.
These months traditionally bring the highest supply of strawberries to markets across the country, with production concentrated across the national market during this period.
