U.S. Embassy Doubles Visa Appointments for Paraguayans Attending The World Cup

The United States Embassy in Paraguay will double its daily visa appointments from 1 December 2025, ensuring that Paraguayan fans can secure interview dates well in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The measure aims to support thousands of Albirroja supporters planning to travel to North America for the tournament.

The update follows Paraguay’s long-awaited World Cup qualification, which sparked scenes of joy across Asunción. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from 11 June to 19 July 2026 and will be the first edition with 48 teams and three host countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.

A boost for Paraguayan fans

By expanding visa appointment availability, the Embassy seeks to facilitate the application process for travellers wishing to attend the world’s most significant football event. Officials emphasise that the initiative is designed to accommodate high demand while maintaining rigorous visa standards.

According to the U.S. Embassy, this step also reinforces the strong and historic friendship between the United States and Paraguay, aligning with the U.S. President’s priority of ensuring the safety and smooth organisation of the tournament.

Strengthening bilateral ties

The upcoming World Cup presents an opportunity to celebrate long-standing connections between the United States, its co-hosts and fans from around the world. Through this initiative, the United States reaffirms its commitment to Paraguay as a valued partner in the region.

“The U.S. Embassy remains committed to working closely with the Paraguayan people and strengthening the ties that bind our nations together. Together, we look forward to celebrating the world’s most important football event and promoting the shared prosperity of our two countries,” the Embassy stated.

Visa requirements and new policy updates

Although visa appointment availability is increasing, all applicants must still meet the eligibility criteria required of non-immigrant visa holders. Each applicant must demonstrate compliance with U.S. law and the intention to return to Paraguay after the tournament.

“The security of the United States and its borders will always come first,” the Embassy affirmed.

A new policy for non-immigrant visa interviewees will enter into effect on 3 February 2025. Applicants must present a DS-160 confirmation number that matches the number used when booking their appointment. Any applicant whose details do not match will be required to reschedule.
