Five young women from San Juan Bautista, in Paraguay’s department of Misiones, have captured national attention with a stirring a cappella version of the Paraguayan National Anthem. The piece, released by Musas, comes ahead of the Albirroja’s upcoming World Cup showdown with Germany on Monday, 29 June, at 17:30.
Now based in Asunción, the group blends family ties and musical training. The members, María Sofía Gómez González (19), María del Carmen Gómez González (21), María Alicia Gómez González (25), María Paz Cubells Gómez (21), and Fátima Bianca Milagros Cubells Gómez (18), have grown up immersed in choirs, vocal ensembles, and artistic activity, shaping a shared artistic identity rooted in vocal performance.
Vocal precision and harmony
Their version of the anthem is entirely voice-driven, with no instruments or production effects. Instead, the arrangement relies on vocal precision and harmony to recreate the depth and structure of a full orchestral interpretation, while preserving the solemnity of the original composition.
The performance is based on the orchestral arrangement by maestro Remberto Giménez. The vocal adaptation was developed by Alicia María Lourdes Gómez González and María Paz Cubells Gómez, who reworked the piece specifically for a purely choral format.
A message of identity and unity

More than a musical project, Musas describe the initiative as an expression of Paraguayan identity at a moment of collective excitement. As the country rallies behind the Albirroja in the World Cup knockout stages, their rendition has resonated as a symbolic message of unity and encouragement.
“Today we see the country united around the Paraguayan national team, and we feel honoured to contribute, through this version of the National Anthem, a message of encouragement, pride and confidence for all of Paraguay,” says María Paz Cubells Gómez.
For the group, performing the anthem carries a strong emotional weight, as it reflects national history and identity.
From San Juan Bautista to the national stage
From a city known for its rich cultural and musical heritage, Musas carry their roots into a performance shaped by discipline, tradition, and family influence. Their upbringing in musical environments continues to inform their artistic identity.
The initiative comes at a celebratory moment for Paraguayan football, as the national team has qualified for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Paraguay will face Germany on Monday, 29 June 2026 at 17:30 PYT, in a highly anticipated knockout-stage encounter.
