Traffic Diversions On Key Luque-Asunción Route Throughout August 2026

Motorists travelling on the Luque-Asunción route should prepare for temporary traffic changes. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced diversions on one of the metropolitan area’s busiest roads. The restrictions will be in place from 10 to 30 August 2026, on General Elizardo Aquino Avenue. These are part of ongoing works to improve stormwater drainage along the Las Residentas Road Corridor.

The intervention will take place at the intersection of General Elizardo Aquino and Sudamericana avenues in Luque. The junction forms part of Route D025, a major corridor connecting Asunción, Luque, and Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, carrying thousands of vehicles each day.

Lane closures and diversions

During the works, the left-hand lane entering Luque via General Elizardo Aquino Avenue will be temporarily closed. Traffic heading into the city will be diverted to one of the central lanes, while another central lane will remain available for vehicles joining from Leonismo Luqueño Avenue. The right-hand lane used by traffic leaving Luque will remain open without changes throughout the construction period.

The project will begin with a two-day preliminary phase, during which one carriageway carrying traffic from Asunción into Luque will be closed. Crews will excavate the site, install the drainage structures, backfill the trench, and lay a new asphalt surface before reopening the road.

Traffic management

The National Highway Patrol (Patrulla Caminera) and Luque’s Municipal Traffic Police will assist with traffic management during the works. Drivers are encouraged to follow temporary signage, obey officers’ instructions, and reduce their speed to a maximum of 20 km/h while travelling through the construction zone. MOPC noted that the timetable remains subject to weather conditions and may change if necessary. Motorists seeking further information about the works or traffic diversions can contact the ministry on +595985203381.
