Ñu Guasu Park’s Major Upgrades With New Family Facilities Near Asunción

Ñu Guasu Park, one of the most popular public recreation spaces in the Greater Asunción area, is set to undergo a major renovation. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has announced plans to enhance visitor facilities, expand recreational areas, and enhance security throughout the park as part of a comprehensive upgrade.

The project includes the refurbishment of Access 2, the restoration of the lagoon area with new illuminated walkways and benches. Also, the complete renovation of the park’s central restroom facilities. The upgraded amenities will include a family bathroom for the first time. The ministry also plans to improve perimeter fencing, refurbish rest shelters, and reorganise the park’s workshop area to make better use of the available space.

New facilities for visitors

Ñu Guasú Park (Parque Ñu Guasú) is a beloved urban green space in Luque, located near Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. Spanning about 25 hectares of open lawns, tree-lined paths, ponds, and wetlands, it serves as a refreshing escape for locals and visitors alike, featuring a walking/jogging circuit, a dedicated bike lane, sports courts, playgrounds, and picnic areas, free to enter and open daily from early morning to evening.

One of the project’s main additions will be a new Visitor Services Centre. According to the MOPC, the building will include changing rooms for men and women, a family bathroom, a first aid room, and a monitoring centre. The monitoring centre will connect to a new CCTV network covering both Ñu Guasu Park and Guasu Metropolitan Park. The system will operate in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and aims to improve safety across both public spaces.

A new playground will also form part of the major upgrades. Designed to combine play, learning, and contact with nature, the area will accommodate around 170 children at the same time. The playground aims to support children’s physical, cognitive, and sensory development through a variety of interactive spaces.

Playground designed for learning and nature

The new playground’s main feature will be the EYWA Tree, a large climbing structure designed for exploration and social interaction. The area will also include sensory play zones, sand pits, accessible pathways, and landscaped rest areas. Native and aromatic plant species will be incorporated throughout the site, while QR codes will allow visitors to learn more about the park’s vegetation.

MOPC Minister Claudia Centurión says, “This is much more than new playground equipment. It is a place for families to come and spend time together, where children will make new friends and create lasting memories. We are also building infrastructure for happiness. That means investing in spaces where our children can grow, play, and be happy.”

The recreational areas will feature impact-absorbing surfaces to improve safety during play. Through the renovation, the MOPC aims to strengthen Ñu Guasu Park’s role as one of Paraguay’s leading public parks by offering modern facilities, improved accessibility, and safer spaces for recreation, exercise, and family activities.
