Travelling to Paraguay is relatively straightforward for citizens of dozens of countries. In 2026, travellers from many countries can travel to Paraguay visa-free. These exemptions cover much of South America and Europe, alongside several countries across North America, Asia and Oceania. However, requirements depend on nationality, passport type and, in some cases, the intended length of stay.
For newcomers considering a holiday, family visit or exploratory trip to Paraguay, checking the latest requirements is particularly important. Paraguay changed its rules for Venezuelan nationals in January 2026, while different permitted stays also apply to certain visa-exempt nationalities.
Which countries can enter Paraguay without a visa?
According to the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ordinary passport holders from numerous countries can travel to Paraguay visa-free. The countries listed by the Ministry are:
South America
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay.
North America, Central America and the Caribbean
Bahamas, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Europe
Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye and Ukraine.
Asia
South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines and Malaysia.
Africa
South Africa.
Oceania
Australia and New Zealand. These two countries also benefit from simplified entry arrangements. Paraguay’s Migration authority states that Australian and New Zealand nationals, alongside Canadians and Americans, can enter without a tourist visa for stays of up to 90 days under Law No. 7314. That arrangement remains valid until 13 August 2027.
How long can visitors stay in Paraguay?
A common limit for visa-free tourist entry is up to 90 days, although travellers should not assume the same period applies to every nationality. For example, Paraguay explicitly permits citizens of Canada and the United States to stay for up to 90 days without a tourist visa. Several Central American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, also have exemptions allowing stays of up to 90 days.
One notable exception is the Dominican Republic, whose nationals can enter without a visa for stays of up to 60 days. Requirements can also differ when a visitor wants to extend their stay, obtain residency, or carry out paid activities in Paraguay. Therefore, visa-free tourist entry should not be confused with permission to live or work permanently in the country.
Venezuela’s visa rules changed in 2026
Venezuela represents one of the most important changes to Paraguay’s immigration rules this year. Previously, Venezuelan nationals could enter Paraguay without a visa for periods of up to 60 days. However, the Paraguayan Government revoked that exemption, and Venezuelan citizens have again been required to obtain a visa since 10 January 2026.
According to Paraguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision was introduced to require prior verification of documentation and background information before entry. The National Directorate of Migration now also identifies Venezuela as a country whose citizens require visas for tourist entry.
Ordinary and diplomatic passports are not the same
Travellers should also pay attention to passport categories when consulting Paraguay’s visa exemptions. Some countries have agreements covering diplomatic, official or service passports without extending the same privilege to ordinary travellers. These include Cuba, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Qatar, Vietnam, Egypt and Morocco, according to the Foreign Ministry’s current requirements. An ordinary passport holder from one of these countries should therefore not assume that a diplomatic visa agreement provides visa-free tourist entry.
Before booking a journey, international visitors should check their nationality directly through the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Directorate of Migration. Requirements can change, and official sources should take priority over older travel guides or visa lists.
