Paraguayan racing driver Miguel García has become the first Paraguayan to secure a podium finish in a GT3 race at Germany’s Nürburgring. This circuit is one of the most demanding and prestigious racing tracks in the world. The achievement marks a milestone for Paraguayan motorsport and represents another significant chapter in García’s international career.
What is GT3?
Grand Touring 3 (GT3) is one of the world’s leading grand touring racing categories. It features production-based sports cars that have been extensively modified for competition. Manufacturers of GT3 cars include Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Audi, Lamborghini, BMW, Aston Martin, and McLaren. They compete under a common set of technical regulations designed to keep different marques closely matched while showcasing each manufacturer’s engineering.
GT3 centres on high-performance sports cars driven by both professional and amateur competitors. The category features in many of the world’s leading endurance and sprint racing championships. Events are typically held at renowned circuits across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. Success in GT3 is widely regarded as a significant achievement because of the depth of competition and the technical demands placed on drivers.
A landmark achievement

Miguel García’s podium at the Nürburgring is the latest milestone in a career that has taken him from Paraguay’s national rally championship to some of Europe’s most competitive GT racing series. Widely regarded as one of motorsport’s greatest challenges, the Nürburgring is renowned for its demanding layout, dramatic elevation changes, and unpredictable weather, making strong performances there especially prestigious.
During the 2026 season, García competed in both the Italian GT Endurance Championship and the Italian GT Sprint Championship with DL Racing, driving an Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II. His Nürburgring podium adds to a career that has already included several milestones for Paraguayan motorsport.
Miguel García’s early career
Miguel María García’s route to international motorsport has been anything but conventional. Born in Asunción, he developed a passion for racing at an early age after receiving his first kart as a gift from his father during a family trip to Buenos Aires. At 14, he left Paraguay to pursue a racing career in the United States after earning a seat with Ginetta USA in the G40 Cup. The move opened the door to Formula 3 tests, the Road to Indy programme and Formula Atlantic. These opportunities layed the foundations for his international career.
His versatility has become one of the defining features of his career. García has competed professionally in rallying, touring cars, single-seaters, and GT racing across three continents. This wealth of experience has helped him adapt to a wide range of machinery and racing environments.
International breakthrough
In 2022, García became the first Paraguayan driver to compete in both Argentina’s TC2000 and Super TC2000 championships. During his debut season, he claimed a race victory, a pole position, and five podium finishes. The Paraguayan driver established himself as one of the championship’s emerging talents.
Miguel García then moved to Europe to make his GT3 debut with Imperiale Racing in the Italian GT Endurance Championship, driving a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo. His first race at Pergusa in Sicily coincided with an eruption of Mount Etna and severe storms. Despite the challenging circumstances, he completed the event before going on to secure two podium finishes during his debut GT3 season.
In 2025, he returned to Paraguay to compete in the National Rally Championship with Hyundai Paraguay. He join European competition the following season. García did it with DL Racing in the Italian GT Endurance and Italian GT Sprint championships.
Although his career has taken him around the world, García has remained closely connected to Paraguay. In an interview with Minardi Management, he said one of the places where he feels most at home is a long-standing street food stall in Asunción. He has visited this stall since childhood, where staff who have followed his career now proudly wear his racing merchandise.
A milestone for Paraguayan motorsport
The Nürburgring podium is another landmark achievement in Miguel García’s career and further strengthens Paraguay’s growing presence in international motorsport. Having already become the first Paraguayan to compete in Argentina’s TC2000 and Super TC2000 championships, García has now added another historic accomplishment by becoming the first Paraguayan GT3 driver to stand on the podium at the Nürburgring.
