South American World Cup Legacy Exhibition In Paraguay’s CONMEBOL Museum

The CONMEBOL Museum in Luque, near Asunción, has opened its doors to a new temporary World Cup legacy exhibition titled “The South American Legacy,” a tribute to the continent’s national teams that have won the World Cup between 1930 and 2022.

The display, which features unique historical artefacts, will be open to the public from 5 to 31 May, 2026, in Luque, before moving to Miami, USA. This exhibition offers an invitation to football fans, families, and enthusiasts to revisit some of the most emblematic moments in South American football history.

The continent’s greatest triumphs

Through a carefully curated collection of original shirts, footballs, and other significant objects, the World Cup legacy exhibition provides a chronological journey through the continent’s greatest triumphs.

The tour begins with Uruguay’s inaugural World Cup victory in 1930 (Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in a final played at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay before a crowd of 93,000) and covers the historic Maracanazo of 1950, when Uruguay famously defeated Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, it showcases the numerous titles won by global powerhouses Brazil and Argentina, which have contributed to South America’s dominant position in world football.

A journey through football history

The initiative aims to create an emotional connection between different generations of football supporters. It specifically highlights the immense talent, unwavering passion, and distinct cultural identity that define the continent’s relationship with the sport. The museum has designed the experience to be both educational and inspiring, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the stories behind the victories.

Alejandro Domínguez, the President of CONMEBOL, commented on the significance of the exhibition. He stated that the display honours the players and teams who achieved greatness and left a lasting mark on the sport.

“The history of world football cannot be told without South America. This exhibition honours those who believed big, made history and left an eternal legacy for new generations,” said Domínguez.

Expanding the legacy to new audiences

Following its stay in Paraguay, the exhibition is scheduled to travel internationally. On 14 June, it will arrive in Miami as a key component of the CONMEBOL World Cup activation event, “From Roots to Soul.” This move is designed to expand the reach of South America’s footballing legacy, bringing its celebrated history to new and diverse audiences in North America. The timing coincides with a period of heightened football interest in the United States, which is co hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This international tour represents a strategic effort by CONMEBOL to promote the continent’s cultural heritage through football. By taking these treasured artefacts abroad, the organisation aims to foster a greater appreciation for the skill and spirit that have characterised South American teams for nearly a century.
