Ministry Of Defence In Asunción Opens Affordable Courses In English, Guaraní And Korean

The Higher Institute of Languages (Instituto Superior de Idiomas), under Paraguay’s Ministry of Defence, has opened enrolment in Asunción for beginner-level English, Guaraní, and Korean courses starting in late April and May 2026. The programme offers low-cost language training to civil students and military personnel. The affordable courses continue to attract high demand due to their structured approach and low fees.

Affordable courses, schedules, and duration

The affordable courses focus on beginner-level students, with programmes ranging from two to three years, depending on the language. English and Korean programmes run for three years, while Guaraní courses last two years.

English courses are divided into several groups. Group D takes place on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 to 13:00, and Group J1 runs Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 14:30, both started on 27 April. Another one, Group Q1, operates Monday to Friday from 18:30 to 20:00, and also started on 27 April. Lastly, Group P3 is scheduled Monday to Friday from 17:30 to 19:00, beginning on 11 May.

The Guaraní course for Group GP2 will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 16:00 to 19:00, starting on 28 April. Meanwhile, the Korean course is taking place with Group CR1, on Tuesday and Thursday from 17:30 to 20:00, beginning on 28 April too.

Affordable fees and entry requirements

One of the main advantages of these courses is their affordability. The current fee structure includes a one-time enrolment fee of ₲70,000 (approximately US$11), a monthly fee of ₲80,000 (approximately US$13), and a course book costing ₲50,000(approximately US$8). This positions the programme as one of the most cost-effective language learning options in Asunción.

Prospective students must present the following:

  • Two updated passport-sized photos (3×4 cm),
  • Two photocopies of a national identity card,
  • One photocopy of a birth certificate,
  • One photocopy of an academic certificate (E.E.B. diploma, high school diploma, or university degree).

Active military personnel must also include a photocopy of their military ID.

Limited places and in-person enrolment

Applicants must enrol in person, and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Officials warn that they will not process applications that do not include complete documentation. With limited places and strong public interest, early attendance is essential for those hoping to secure a spot in one of Paraguay’s most accessible language programmes.
