Asunción will host a diverse programme for Holy Week 2026. The programme will offer residents and visitors a chance to experience the capital through tradition and community events. The Municipality of Asunción has prepared an agenda of tourist and religious activities, many of them free and open to all ages. Designed especially for those staying in the city, the initiative aims to highlight local traditions.
What to do during Holy Week 2026?

The programme for Holy Week 2026 in Asunción presents “Secrets of the Palace” on Wednesday, 1 April at 10:00, an activity organised by the National Secretariat of Tourism. Held at the Palacio de López, the experience offers visitors a closer look at one of Paraguay’s most iconic buildings. Entry is free, although prior booking is required.
On Thursday, 2 April, the focus shifts to religious heritage with a Religious Tour starting at 10:00. Participants will visit emblematic landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Pantheon of the Heroes. Later that day, “Secrets of the Palace” will run again at 18:00.
The same day also includes “We Open the Doors of the Municipal Theatre”, allowing visitors to explore the historic venue between 10:00 and 16:00. In the evening, at 21:00, a Via Crucis led by a Catholic youth group will move through neighbourhood streets, creating a moment of collective reflection.
Friday highlights: tours and history

Friday, 3 April, stands out as the busiest day of Holy Week 2026. With activities scheduled from early morning until evening, a guided cycling tour of seven churches will depart from the Costanera at 08:00, followed by a second departure at 09:00.
The “Bici tour” will include visits to key landmarks such as Oratorio Loma San Jerónimo, Stella Marys, and María Auxiliadora. Also, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Oratorio de la Virgen de la Asunción at the National Pantheon of the Heroes, Parroquia San Roque, and Iglesia de la Encarnación, offering participants a unique way to experience the city’s religious heritage.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Theatre will remain open to visitors throughout the day. In the afternoon, additional activities include another cycling route departing from Manzana de la Rivera and a bus-based “Route of the 7 Churches”, offering a more accessible alternative with included services.
Cultural and historical exploration continues at 15:00 with visits to historic cemeteries. Later, at 18:00, a procession featuring “estacioneros”, a traditional choral group from Paraguay that sings sacred hymns during Holy Week, designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage, from Bañado Sur will take place, followed by a Via Crucis at 19:00 in Carlos Antonio López Park.
Closing activities
The weekend programme for Holy Week 2026 maintains a quieter but meaningful tone. On Saturday, 4 April, “Secrets of the Palace” will once again be available to the public. The agenda concludes on Sunday, 5 April, with a visual arts workshop titled “Christ Lives, Alleluia” held at the San Jerónimo Community Centre. These initiatives aim to enhance domestic tourism during Holy Week 2026, while creating spaces for connection and shared experiences.
