Paraguay’s cattle industry has earned international recognition. A Braford cow from Paraguay was named the best in the world at a competition in the United States. The victory highlights the country’s growing influence in cattle genetics and bovine production on the global stage. It also reflects a broader trend, as Paraguayan cattle have increasingly secured top honours at major international competitions. These achievements continue to strengthen the country’s reputation as a leading producer of high-quality livestock genetics and beef.
Paraguayan genetics shine in Houston

The cow, named Isabel, was crowned Grand Champion Female at the Champion of the World 2026 – Braford Breed competition. The award ceremony took place during the internationally renowned Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Texas. The title places Paraguay among the world’s leading references in Braford genetics. It also marks a historic milestone for Cabaña Don Atilio, which secured the top global distinction in this competition for the first time.
Isabel comes from an impressive lineage, as both her mother and grandmother were notable champions in previous competitions. Last year, she was awarded Miss World Braford 2025. The animal weighs approximately 690 kilograms and was presented at the exhibition alongside a four-month-old calf, highlighting her strong maternal qualities. According to her breeder, Isabel embodies several of the traits currently sought after in the Braford breed, including adaptability, productivity, and maternal strength.
From national champion to world champion
Isabel’s success did not come overnight. Her potential was evident early in her career when she competed in Paraguay’s National Braford Show in 2023. At just nine months old, she was named Grand Champion Calf at the event. After that victory, her handlers decided to reserve her for higher-level international competitions. The strategy ultimately paid off with her recent global title in Houston.
Paraguay has been gaining prominence in international livestock competitions in recent years. In 2025, a Paraguayan Brangus cow also received global recognition after winning the Miss World title in an international cattle competition.
Both Brangus and Braford are composite breeds developed for demanding climates. Brangus cattle are a hybrid breed that combines Angus and Brahman genetics, typically characterised by a black coat and a naturally hornless appearance, producing high-quality beef. Brafords, a cross between Hereford and Brahman, are usually red and white and are valued for early maturity, strong maternal traits, and their ability to thrive in tropical environments.
Isabel’s victory further reinforces Paraguay’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence for cattle breeding and livestock genetics.
