Paraguay welcomed 3.66 million international visitors in 2025, marking a 91.24% rise from the previous year, according to the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur). The growth reflects strong regional interest, especially from neighbouring Argentina. As a result, tourism has become a major driver of the national economy.
International visitors in numbers
Of the total arrivals, 2,029,678 were tourists staying overnight, while 1,627,516 were excursionists. This alone marks a 39% increase in day visitors compared to 2024. Argentina remained the leading source market with 79.98% of all arrivals, followed by Brazil (10.14%). Also, the United States (1.09%), and other countries contributing 9%. Director of the National Civil Aviation Directorate (Dinac) Nelson Mendoza Rolón highlighted that increased flight connectivity and improved airport services have helped accommodate the higher number of visitors.
Tourism revenue reached an estimated US$1.422 billion, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transport services, and local artisans. “Tourism has a wide-ranging impact on our economy, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, communities, and small businesses across the country,” Minister of Tourism Angie Duarte said at a press conference. She also noted the growing importance of public–private partnerships in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism.
Record residency applications
Paraguay’s appeal is not limited to tourism. Immigration authorities reported a record 47,600 residency applications in 2025, 63% higher than in 2024. Of these, 34,875 were temporary residencies, reflecting a strong interest in living and working in the country. “These are unprecedented figures, confirming Paraguay’s attractiveness as a place to settle,” said National Director of Immigration Jorge Kronawetter.
The trend has continued into 2026. In just the first 20 days, 2,817 applications were received, representing a 79% increase over the same period last year. To better manage the growing demand, a new digital system will be launched mid-year in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic), offering a faster, more transparent, and efficient process for applicants.
With these developments, Paraguay consolidates its reputation as both a regional and international destination. The combined growth in tourism and residency interest suggests that Paraguay is on track for significant economic and social dynamism in 2026. This growth represents opportunities for investment, cultural exchange, and community development.
