Paraguay achieved its highest-ever air travel record in 2025, with more than 1.28 million travellers passing through Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. The milestone was confirmed by the National Directorate of Civil Aviation (Dinac). The record marks a significant moment for the country’s aviation sector and broader economic outlook.
Authorities attribute the growth to renewed airline confidence and improved connectivity. Also, Paraguay’s growing role as a regional hub for business, tourism, and international events.
Record-breaking year for aviation
A total of 1,285,623 passengers travelled through Silvio Pettirossi Airport, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 10% compared to 2024. This equals more than 110,000 additional travellers in just twelve months.
According to Dinac, the achievement reflects the return of airlines that had previously reduced operations. Alongside this, the arrival of new carriers. Improvements in services and passenger experience also played a key role in boosting demand.
“This result reflects the confidence of the sector and a management strategy focused on connectivity and service quality,” Dinac stated in an official release.
Tourism on the rise
The upward trend extends beyond air travel. The National Directorate of Migration reported a sharp increase in overall movement across Paraguay’s borders. By the end of November 2025, more than 12.7 million entries and exits of nationals and foreigners had been recorded, representing an increase of over 25% compared to all of 2024.
Authorities link this growth to Paraguay’s positioning as a safe and attractive destination for investment. As well as for major international events such as the Copa Sudamericana and the World Rally Championship.
Migration figures also reveal a rise in long-term settlement. In 2025, Paraguay received 43,802 applications for temporary and permanent residency, an increase of over 50% compared to the previous year. Of these, 36,263 residencies were approved, marking a 28% annual rise. Brazilian nationals led the list, with 20,852 residency permits granted.
A year of air travel records and milestones
“This is undoubtedly the year of national aviation,” said Nelson Mendoza, President of Dinac, thanking airport staff and aviation workers for their contribution.
Authorities believe these trends reflect coordinated public policies and institutional cooperation, positioning Paraguay for sustained growth and stronger international integration.
