The Costanera of Asunción, a vital artery connecting two ends of Paraguay’s capital, will be temporarily closed to accommodate the upcoming ASU2025 Junior Pan American Games. According to the organiser, the closure will impact the section between Paraguayo Independiente Street and Primer Presidente Avenue. The closure will span three days across two weekends – August 9, 10, and 17 – to host the cycling events of the international sports competition.
Local authorities are asking residents and visitors to plan travel routes in advance. Several streets surrounding the Costanera will have restricted access. Solely residents of the sector and first responders will have the abilitation to pass. Impacted streets includes Montevideo, Río Ypané, Cañadón Chaqueño, and the Botánico Road Corridor.
Costanera Closure
The Costanera José Asunción Flores will be closed during the following times:
Saturday, August 9, from 4 AM to 1 PM
Sunday, August 10, from 4 AM to 1:30 PM
Sunday, August 17, from 4 AM to 7 PM
The recommendation for drivers is to consult official channels for real-time traffic updates to navigate the disruptions effectively.
ASU2025 coming up
As Paraguay gears up to host ASU2025, excitement is visible across its capital. The games will bring together over 4,000 young athletes from 41 countries across the Americas, competing in 28 sports and 42 disciplines.
The event expectation is to draw nearly 6,000 visitors, including 762 international judges, 300 sports officials, and hundreds of tourists eager to cheer from the stands.
Apart from the Costanera and the Bay of Asunción, games will be held at the Olimpic Park (Parque Olímpico), the National Secretariat of Sports, the Rakiura Resort, and the Asunción Golf Club. Games will also take place in Ypacarai at Lake Manene, and in Encarnación, in Southern Paraguay.
