Speed bump construction at the intersection of Mariscal López Avenue and Waldino Ramón Lovera Street in Asunción will begin the weekend of August 2 and 3, 2025. The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) clarified that work will be carried out without interrupting traffic flow in either direction on Mariscal López Avenue.
During the construction period, the intersection with Waldino Ramón Lovera Street will be closed to through traffic. This means that vehicles travelling on Waldino Ramón Lovera Street will not be able to cross Mariscal López Avenue. And those travelling on Mariscal López Avenue will not be able to turn onto Waldino Ramón Lovera Street.
It is important to note, MOPC states, that traffic flow on Mariscal López Avenue will remain open in both directions, both towards Asunción and towards San Lorenzo.
Traffic management
Highway Patrol officers will be present in the area to manage traffic flow, MOPC reported. The ministry recommends that motorists use alternative routes and drive with caution, noting that the work on speed bump construction is being done over the weekend to minimise disruption and ensure lasting improvements to the road infrastructure.
Recent developments include infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow, such as road resurfacing, drainage system enhancements to mitigate flooding. And pavement repairs to reduce potholes, which are notorious challenges during heavy rains.
Improvements in San Lorenzo
Recently, Mariscal López Avenue in San Lorenzo sprang back to life with smoother traffic flow after the reopening of a key stretch from the San Lorenzo bike path (Yberá area) to Víctor Cáceres Street.
This reopening restored traffic flow on a key stretch of the iconic avenue following recent road improvements. In recent weeks, workers completed paving between the cycle path and Shopping Pinedo. Both lanes now have their final asphalt layer, allowing for the normal circulation of vehicles, MOPC reported. The overall renovation project is now almost 60% complete.
