Paraguay is making a tourism strategic initiative to position itself as a key destination for Bolivian travellers. Given the close proximity and strong cultural links, neighbouring country Bolivia has become a central market for Paraguay’s expanding tourism growth.
A recent commercial mission in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, introduced Bolivia’s tourism sector to Paraguay’s diverse cultural, natural, and experiential offerings. This trip was led by Ángel Bogado from Paraguay’s National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur), and included private sector representatives, which featured presentations, networking opportunities, and promotional materials.
Expanding visibility in a growing region
Held at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Cruz, the event was organised under the banner “Paraguay, Tourist Destination”. It brought together tour operators, travel agencies, media representatives, and tourism professionals from both countries. The aim: to raise Paraguay’s profile in one of the region’s most accessible and promising outbound markets.
Paraguay presented its most distinctive attractions : the Jesuit Route, the Sugarcane Trail, gastronomic circuits, and community-based ecotourism. The country also highlighted principal international events such as the WRC World Rally Championship, and the International Tourism Fair of Paraguay (FITPAR). These experiences are particularly appealing to Bolivian tourists interested in sports, cultural heritage and nature-based vacations.
Business connections and cultural integration
The delegation was led by Ángel Bogado, Chief of Staff at Senatur, representing Tourism Minister Angie Duarte, and supported by Julio César Echagüe, Paraguay’s Consul General in Santa Cruz, and First Secretary Óscar Benítez. The event included a workshop where Paraguayan and Bolivian tourism professionals explored cooperation opportunities, commercial alliances, and joint promotional efforts.
FITPAR President Rossana Fustagno formally launched the upcoming edition of the fair and extended an invitation to Bolivian destinations to take part as exhibitors. Having Bolivian destinations represented at FITPAR would strengthen the profile of both countries and encourage cross-border travel between Paraguay and Bolivia.
Support for eco-friendly tourism development
In addition, this project contributes to Paraguay’s master plan for sustainable tourism development. The strategy promotes the country as a competitive, sustainable and well-connected regional destination. By reinforcing this cooperation with Bolivia, Paraguay is growing the tourism sector.
The country is also actively promoting cultural exchange and economic collaboration across South America. Paraguay is actively strengthening ties with Bolivia, one of its closest regional partners in sustainable tourism.
