Asunción To Host 45th South American Futsal Club Championship

Paraguay’s capital is set to become the epicentre of South American futsal, as Asunción will host the 45th South American Futsal Club Championship for the South Zone. The prestigious tournament will take place from the 28 July to 1 August, 2026. All matches are scheduled to be held at the Luis Oscar Giagni Miers Sports Centre of Club Sol de América, providing a central and well-equipped venue for the international competition. The event brings together top club teams from across the region.

This championship represents a significant event in the regional futsal calendar, drawing attention from enthusiasts across several nations. The organisation of the tournament highlights Asunción’s capacity to host major sporting events and underscores the popularity of futsal in Paraguay.

Paraguay represented by two clubs

The structure of the tournament’s initial phase was formalised during a presentation and group draw ceremony. The event took place in the Don Jaime Arroyabe Rendon auditorium at the headquarters of the World Futsal Association in Asunción, which sanctions the championship. Officials and team representatives gathered as the eight participating clubs were divided into two groups. This draw has now set the stage for a series of exciting preliminary matches.

Paraguay will be represented by two clubs, 12 de Junio of the Barrio Jara neighbourhood and the club Atenas. Both teams will have the advantage of playing on home soil and will undoubtedly receive strong local support. Their performance will be closely watched as they compete against some of the best club sides from neighbouring countries.

Official groups confirmed following draw

The groups are composed of teams from Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile. Group A will feature Palermo from Uruguay, SAF Talisman from Brazil, and Cotas Juniors from Bolivia. They will be joined by one of the Paraguayan host teams, 12 de Junio.

Meanwhile, Group B includes San Miguel from Uruguay, Deportivo Churros from Chile, and Furia Cruceña from Bolivia. The second Paraguayan representative, Atenas, completes this group.

The matches will be played in four rounds, starting at 14:00 on the three days of the preliminary stage. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals will compete for the title on Saturday, 1 August.

Logistical details and official ball unveiled

Organisers have confirmed key logistical details for spectators looking to attend the event. Tickets for the first phase of the championship will be available for ₲10,000 (approximately US$1.65). While the group stage is set, fans will have to wait a little longer for the full match schedule. It was announced that the complete fixture list, detailing specific dates and times for each game, will be officially released on Saturday, 18 July.

During the South American Futsal Club Championship launch event, the tournament’s sponsor, Temple Sport, also presented the official ball for the championship. The company revealed that it is a limited edition design, created specifically for this competition. In total, only 400 of these exclusive balls have been produced. 100 of them have been allocated for use in the tournament matches, the remaining balls available for sale to the public.
