The Paraguayan junior U20 women’s fencing team was awarded the silver medal on the last day of the South American of Esgrima Rosario 2024 (Argentina), thus obtaining the first prize for Paraguayan fencing in this competition.
The team consists of Janine Hanspach, Luciana García, Jimena Cabrera and Ana Paula Gallardo, the latter two in the category U15 (under 15 years).
In the first round they achieved a great victory against Argentina with the score 45 to 41; then in the semifinals they defeated Chile 39 to 34, in a thrilling match that was defined in the last seconds. It is worth noting the valuable contribution of coach Juan Lucas who strategically led the contest, and got the athletes to showcase their best performance in each round.
At the last meeting the compatriots gave in to Brazil 45 to 27 and were left with a valuable silver medal, which serves and motivates in the face of the Pan American Youth Games to be held in Asunción next year.
