At just 19 years old, German-born artist Pheline Dietrich is preparing for another important step in her emerging artistic career. On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, she will present her first solo exhibition in Asunción, at Arte con Aroma Café, at 19:00. Through her paintings, Dietrich hopes to encourage visitors to pause, reflect, and rediscover beauty in their busy everyday lives.
The exhibition follows her public debut earlier this year at Casa Hassler in San Bernardino, where she exhibited alongside other artists. This time, the evening will focus entirely on her work and the artistic identity she continues to develop in Paraguay. Above all, Dietrich hopes her paintings can communicate joy, encouragement, and a sense of wonder to those who encounter them.
A solo show
Dietrich was born in Germany but has lived in Paraguay for the past five years. Painting accompanied her throughout childhood, although she only recently decided to pursue it as a professional career. Her upcoming exhibition represents another step forward.
“For me, it is something very, very exciting and very special,” Pheline tells The Asunción Times. “Usually, it takes so long to have your first exhibition, and I am so honoured and happy that I can share my art already at such a young age.”
She sees the exhibition as the beginning of a different stage in her development. It also allows people to encounter paintings they may previously have seen only through a screen.
“It is kind of like the beginning of a new chapter in my art career,” she says. “I get to show people my art not only on Instagram, but now in real life.”
An exhibition built around exploration
Rather than presenting a collection built around one established artistic style, Pheline is embracing the uncertainty of finding her own voice.
“I am currently in a full season of artistic exploration. I am testing new materials, trying new subjects, and painting in all kinds of styles.”
The approximately 20 works reflect that process. Pheline is simultaneously working as an artist and studying through an online United States-based art programme, which exposes her to different techniques and approaches. Most paintings have already appeared on her Instagram page. However, Pheline Dietrich has deliberately kept several pieces private ahead of the exhibition.
“I have a couple that I purposefully kept secret for this exposition. That will be an extra surprise for visitors who already follow my Instagram.”
All displayed paintings will also be available for purchase. Dietrich says their experimental nature makes this exhibition a particularly unusual opportunity for those interested in owning her work.
Finding a voice through art
Although experimentation provides the exhibition’s artistic foundation, Dietrich also wants the experience to extend beyond her own search for creative identity.
“What I do by sharing these paintings is invite the visitor in and give them a quiet pause. They can pause and relax, and take a rest in the beauty they see. I hope they can be encouraged in their own lives to go their own path and find their own voice. To find out who they are and what they like in life.”
For her, this becomes the central idea behind the exhibition: providing rest while encouraging exploration.
That message also connects, although indirectly, with Pheline’s broader philosophy of celebrating life through art.
“I believe that life is meant to be lived, and that we are not just passing by something. I love to take my life into my own hands and do what may seem crazy to other people.”
Choosing an artistic career at a young age is one example. Rather than following a conventional path, Dietrich sees painting as an expression of the freedom she wants others to discover.
“You have the power over your own life. You can choose to do what you love, and that is what I am choosing with painting.”
An invitation to pause and marvel
Despite the significance of her first solo exhibition, Dietrich wants the event to remain accessible and informal. Admission is free, and visitors do not need to register beforehand. Arte con Aroma Café has two adjoining spaces, with Pheline’s exhibition occupying one area while the café operates alongside it. Visitors can therefore explore the paintings while also choosing to purchase food or drinks separately from the café.
The exhibition is not intended only for collectors or people accustomed to visiting galleries. Dietrich hopes to welcome anyone interested in beauty, creativity, or simply taking a moment away from everyday routines. She particularly values the possibility of reaching people who may discover her work unexpectedly while visiting the café.
“I get to display that and be part of that positive change in people’s lives. I want to encourage them to walk their own way and go their own path.”
Pheline Dietrich’s first solo exhibition in Asunción opens at Arte con Aroma Café on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at 19:00. Admission is free, and no registration is required. The exhibition remains open for viewing and purchases until Monday, 5 October 2026.
After opening night, visitors can see the exhibition during the café’s regular hours, Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 21:00. The café is closed on Sundays.
