Paraguay To Host World Rally Championship in 2025

The organisation of the 2025 WRC World Rally Championship in Paraguay is moving forward steadily with a multi-sector approach that seeks to turn the country into an epicenter of world motorsport and a key destination for international tourism.

The initial coordination meeting was held today in Encarnación, headed by Mayor Luis Yd, municipal councilors and representatives of institutions such as the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) and the Government of Itapúa.

The event, which is part of a national development agenda, plans to receive more than 250,000 visitors in its first edition, positioning Paraguay on the global stage.

How Paraguay hosting the World Rally Championship will help local residents

Luis Yd, Mayor of Encarnación, highlighted the preparations to ensure the success of the event: “We estimate that some 60,000 people out of the 250,000 will come to Encarnación alone. We are already preparing to repair the streets and pave the missing ones; for this we made an investment of 12 billion guaraníes with the purchase of an asphalt plant.” He also highlighted the cultural importance of the chosen venues: “We think that closing in Trinidad is fantastic because it is a World Heritage Site.”

Rodrigo Maluff, Vice Minister of the Investment and Export Network (Rediex), highlighted the strategic importance of the event: “We want this rally to leave a legacy in the communities where it takes place, working with a 360 calendar with Itapúa, since we have summer, carnival and sporting events with a packed agenda.”

The event also coincides with other key initiatives for Itapúa, such as the Junior Pan American Games in August 2025, which will bring eight sports to Encarnación. According to César Palacios, General Director of Strategic Communication at MITIC, the World Rally Championship will allow Paraguay to be showcased to the world: “Encarnación will position itself globally with the live broadcast of the rally in more than 200 countries simultaneously.”

A government spokesperson said: “The joint work between institutions, local authorities and the private sector reaffirms the country’s commitment to sustainable development and global projection.”
