Paraguayan Footballer Matías Galarza Joins Lionel Messi At Inter Miami

Inter Miami CF has officially announced the signing of Paraguayan international Matías Galarza. The midfielder arrives from the Argentine club River Plate on a loan deal that includes a purchase option.

The move will see Galarza join a team featuring international stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. His arrival strengthens the squad as they compete in Major League Soccer (MLS). The 24-year-old joins pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.

Details of the loan agreement

Galarza arrives at the Florida-based club on an initial loan agreement. The deal includes a provision for the transfer to be made permanent if certain performance-based objectives are met. According to reports, the purchase option becomes mandatory if Galarza participates in a specified percentage of the team’s official matches.

Should the clause be activated, Inter Miami would acquire a significant portion of the player’s rights for a reported fee of US$3 million. Galarza previously had a loan spell in the MLS during the first half of the 2026 season with Atlanta United before returning to River Plate.

Growing Paraguayan presence

With this signing, Galarza becomes the fourth Paraguayan footballer to join the Inter Miami squad: Compatriots Matías Rojas, Diego Gómez, and David Martínez also played for the American club before.

Born in Asunción, Galarza began his career in the youth system of Club Olimpia before moving to Brazilian football. He has since played for several clubs in South America, including Vasco da Gama, Coritiba, and Talleres. He has also established himself in the Paraguayan national team, earning 19 caps.

His highlight came at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored the winning goal in the group stage match against Türkiye within two minutes, and converted his penalty kick in Paraguay’s penalty-shootout victory over Germany to reach the last 16.
