Paraguay flight routes are entering one of the busiest periods in years. Several airlines are adding new routes and increasing frequencies at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, Asunción’s main gateway. The airport is located in the town of Luque, just outside the capital. The changes follow a record year for passenger numbers in 2025, as Paraguay’s government pushes to position the country as a stronger regional hub. Some of these routes to fly direct from Asunción are already operating, while others will launch later in 2026, and a few remain under negotiation.
Where can travellers fly to right now?
As of September 2026, Paraguay has direct international flights to destinations across South America, Central America and Europe. LATAM Paraguay, one of two airlines based in the country, connects Asunción with São Paulo and Santiago de Chile. Regionally, Paranair, JetSmart, Aerolíneas Argentinas and Flybondi connect Asunción with Buenos Aires. Flybondi has also recently added a further route to Córdoba, Argentina.
GOL links Paraguay’s capital with São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Copa Airlines currently operates around 18 flights a week between Asunción and Panama City. From there, passengers can connect to more than 85 destinations across the Americas and the Caribbean.
For long-haul travel, Air Europa remains the only airline offering a direct route to Europe. It flies daily between Asunción and Madrid. The airline recently marked ten years on the route with record figures, carrying 202,000 passengers in 2025. It plans to increase capacity further in 2026, offering more than 247,000 seats across the year.
Brazilian carrier Azul has also served Paraguay since December 2024, when it launched flights connecting Asunción with Curitiba, Florianópolis, Recife and Campinas. These routes continue to operate today, with seasonal increases in frequency during the Southern Hemisphere summer.
New Paraguay flight routes taking shape
Several airlines are adding capacity this year. Colombian carrier Avianca will begin flying daily between Asunción and Bogotá from the last week of October. This is an increase from three weekly flights currently. The airline said the change responds to growing regional demand.
The increase forms part of a wider expansion that also affects its Montevideo route. JetSmart has also introduced a direct route between Asunción and Rio de Janeiro. Copa Airlines announced this month that it will raise its Asunción-Panama City frequencies to 19 flights a week from December. This will rise further to 21 a week from January 2027.
A Miami route finally on the way?
Paraguay is set to gain the opportunity to fly direct from Asunción to the United States for the first time since 2020. GOL plans to connect Asunción with Miami, initially timed for June to coincide with the FIFA World Cup. The launch was rescheduled after a rise in international jet fuel prices affected the airline’s plans. Paraguay’s civil aviation authority, DINAC, describes the route as “postponed, not cancelled”, with discussions under way to set a new start date.
Other potential routes remain at an earlier stage. Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in May 2026 that it held talks with Taiwanese carriers China Airlines and EVA Airways. The discussions explored a possible direct or connecting route between Taipei and Asunción. Separately, American Airlines declined a government proposal to resume direct flights between Asunción and Miami, according to a letter sent to DINAC. The airline cited a shortage of long-range aircraft. It said it would reconsider once such aircraft become available.
Why the sudden growth
The wave of new routes follows a record 1.3 million passengers through Silvio Pettirossi Airport in 2025. This prompted authorities to announce an expansion of the terminal. Paraguay’s return to the football World Cup after a 16-year absence has also driven government efforts to secure new international links. This is particularly true for routes to the United States. Airlines and officials alike point to rising demand from business and leisure travellers as the main driver behind Paraguay’s expanding flight routes.
