Asunción Municipality Seeks Dancers for New Folkloric Group

The Municipality of Asunción has officially opened a call for individuals to join the new folkloric group of Municipal Centre N° 2 Oñondivepa. This initiative, managed through the city’s citizen participation department, aims to create a vibrant space for cultural expression and training.

The centre is located in the Fátima neighbourhood of Santísima Trinidad and serves as a key community hub. The programme operates under the inspiring slogan, “Folklore unites us, identifies us, and makes us grow,” which underscores its cultural and community-building objectives.

Strengthening local cultural heritage

This opportunity is directed at individuals aged 12 and older who have a foundational knowledge of dance. The organisers are seeking enthusiastic participants who wish to develop their skills within a structured environment dedicated to celebrating Paraguayan traditions.

Ultimately, the new cast will provide a platform for artistic growth while simultaneously strengthening local cultural heritage. The formation of the group, acoording to the organisers, represents a significant effort by the municipality to promote the arts at a grassroots level.

An invitation to develop artistic talent

The core purpose of this new folkloric group call is to assemble a dedicated group of performers who can represent the cultural richness of the region. Participants will engage in regular training sessions designed to refine their abilities and deepen their understanding of folkloric dance. Furthermore, the programme is envisioned as more than just a series of classes; it is intended to be a collaborative space where members can share their passion for dance and contribute to a collective artistic endeavour.

By setting a minimum age of 12, the initiative encourages participation from a wide range of community members, including young people and adults. This intergenerational approach is crucial for the transmission of cultural knowledge, allowing experienced dancers to mentor younger participants. Consequently, the cast will not only preserve traditional art forms but also ensure they are passed down to a new generation of performers.

Fostering cultural identity and community bonds

Organisers have emphasised that the folkloric cast is a key component of a broader strategy to fortify cultural identity within the community. In a rapidly modernising world, such initiatives play a vital role in keeping traditional customs alive and relevant.

Moreover, the project is designed to enhance community participation by bringing residents together through a shared interest. The regular rehearsals and future performances will create valuable social opportunities, helping to build relationships and strengthen the social fabric of the Fátima neighbourhood. The centre’s name, Oñondivepa, a Guaraní word meaning “all together,” perfectly captures this spirit of unity and collective effort that the municipality aims to promote through accessible cultural activities.

New folkloric group schedule and location

The training sessions for the folkloric cast are scheduled to take place every Monday evening, starting on 20 April, 2026. Classes will run from 19:00 to 20:30, providing a convenient time for students and working adults to attend. All activities will be held at the headquarters of the municipal centre, which is situated at the intersection of 8 de Junio and Sargento Martínez streets.

The choice of this location makes the programme highly accessible to residents of the Fátima neighbourhood and the surrounding areas of Santísima Trinidad. By hosting the initiative within a well-known local facility, the municipality ensures that it remains firmly rooted in the community it is intended to serve.

For additional details about the programme or the registration process, prospective participants can make contact by telephone. The designated number for all enquiries is (0994) 881 846.
