Paraguayan researcher and lecturer Patricia Bonnin Arias has been appointed as a tenured professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) in Spain. The appointment followed her success in a rigorous national accreditation process and a public competition.
The new role serves as a significant recognition of her extensive academic career and her dedicated work in both teaching and research within the Spanish university system. This achievement marks a new milestone in the Paraguayan academic’s professional journey.
A significant academic milestone
In addition to this permanent appointment, Bonnin Arias was also recently selected as a recipient of a research stay grant. The grant is part of the prestigious José Castillejo programme, which is administered by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
This award will facilitate a period of research for Bonnin Arias in Ireland. The appointment to a tenured professorship highlights the growing participation of Paraguayan professionals in leading international institutions of higher education, science, and research.
Embassy highlights national pride
The Embassy of Paraguay in the Kingdom of Spain officially commended the achievement of Bonnin Arias. In a statement, the embassy noted that her career is a source of great pride for Paraguay.
Furthermore, the embassy emphasised that her success reflects the valuable contribution of Paraguayan professionals to international academic and scientific development. The diplomatic mission also expressed its recognition for all Paraguayans working in various fields abroad, particularly those who contribute to the strengthening of education, science, and research globally.
Earlier this year, two Paraguayan doctoral researchers achieved international recognition after publishing a scientific article on inclusive physical education in an academic journal. Néstor Figueredo Martínez and Germán Martínez Cardozo are currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in Spain. Both are supported by the National Scholarship Programme “Carlos Antonio López” (BECAL).
