The Museum of Science (MuCi) has unveiled a month-long programme of activities to celebrate Children’s Month in Paraguay. Throughout August 2026, visitors can enjoy workshops, guided experiences, outdoor activities, planetarium shows and a special total lunar eclipse observation. Events are designed for children, families, and adults at the Textilia complex in Asunción.

Saturday, 8 August – Botanical Illustration Workshop
The first special event of the month is a Botanical Illustration Workshop, taking place from 16:00 to 18:00. Led by guest illustrator Bianca Fernández, the session introduces participants to botanical illustration through direct observation of plants growing in MuCi’s gardens. The workshop costs ₲130,000 (approximately US$22) and is limited to 15 participants.
Sunday, 16 August – Exoplanet Explorers
To mark Paraguay’s Children’s Day, MuCi will host Exoplanet Explorers, a hands-on workshop where children become space explorers. Participants will build and personalise their own rockets before embarking on an imaginary mission to a newly discovered exoplanet. There, they will collect samples, investigate their surroundings, and imagine the alien life that could inhabit the distant world. The activity runs from 16:00 to 18:00, weather permitting, and costs ₲30,000 (approximately US$5).
Sunday, 16 August – Creamundos
Adults aged 18 and above can take part in Creamundos, a creative papier-mâché workshop from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants will design and sculpt their own miniature planet using traditional crafting techniques. Places are limited to 15 people and admission costs ₲20,000 (approximately US$3).
Saturday, 22 August – La Fogata Reading Club
MuCi’s free La Fogata Reading Club returns on 23 August from 17:00 to 19:00. Open to readers aged 16 and over, the gathering encourages participants to read together and exchange ideas, reflections, and discussions in a relaxed setting.
Thursday, 27 August – Total Lunar Eclipse Observation
One of the month’s highlights will be the public observation of the total lunar eclipse on Thursday, 27 August. The event begins at 22:00 at Asunción’s Costanera Norte, near the Palacio de López and the #YoAmoAsu sign. The eclipse will reach totality at 01:19, when the Moon is expected to take on its characteristic reddish colour, before ending at 04:03 in the early hours of Friday 28 August.
Regular activities throughout August
Alongside its special events, MuCi will continue offering several regular experiences during children’s month. Visitors can explore Open-Air Science, a free self-guided experience featuring three interactive outdoor stations: the Bio Pond, MuCi’s themed gardens, and the interactive woodland trail at the Textilia complex.
During weekends, Po Prendé: Themed Gardens offers free sensory experiences introducing visitors to aromatic, medicinal and ornamental plants. The activity takes place on Saturdays from 14:00 to 17:00 and Sundays from 14:00 to 19:00. Also, every Saturday from 17:30 to 18:30, Sábado Porã combines botany and birdwatching with a guided walk through the woodland and themed gardens. Participation is limited to 30 people.
On Thursdays and Fridays, visitors can join Bio Pond: The Fascinating Gymnotiformes, a guided experience exploring Paraguay’s electric fish and their role in local aquatic ecosystems. Sessions run hourly from 16:00 to 19:00 and cost ₲20,000 (approximately US$3).
Those interested in architecture and science can also join the Obra Tour, which offers guided visits to the future Museum of Sciences construction site, explaining the innovative building methods behind the project.
Planetarium programme
MuCi’s San Cosmos, Paraguay’s first digital planetarium, will continue presenting immersive audiovisual shows throughout August. The programme for children’s month includes Zodiac: The Mystery of the Signs, Solar System, Mysteries of Your Brain: In Search of a New Earth, Mars: The Ultimate Journey, The Moons of the Solar System, Stellar Stories: From Stars to Supernovae and Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival. The schedule also includes Quiet Hour, a Solar System presentation specially adapted for neurodivergent visitors.
Planetarium shows are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 08:30 to 12:30, Thursdays and Fridays from 08:30 to 12:30 and 16:00 to 20:00, and Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 to 20:00. An adults-only session takes place every Saturday at 20:00. Tickets for planetarium shows cost ₲40,000 (approximately US$7).
