The National Secretariat of Culture is inviting the public to a new series of free Paraguayan dance workshops. Scheduled across May to November 2026, participants aged 12 and above can engage with one of the country’s most enduring cultural expressions. The lessons are set to take place at Espacio Cultural Staudt.
The programme offers two sessions per month. The first sessions begin in May, with classes taking place on Saturday, 2 May, and Saturday, 16 May. The workshop will go from 16:00 to 18:00, creating a consistent space for learning and artistic development. The invitation is a free initiative to explore tradition and community through dance.
A space for learning and connection
More than technical training, the workshops are conceived as open environments for exploration and exchange. Participants are encouraged to approach dance not only as performance but as a tool for communication, self-expression, and community building. Through guided sessions, attendees will develop their existing knowledge while discovering new artistic and personal resources. The emphasis lies in fostering a process that extends beyond choreography, allowing participants to integrate movement into their everyday lives and social interactions.
Preserving a heritage with free Paraguayan dance workshops
The workshops will be led by the National Folkloric Ballet of Paraguay, a company dedicated to the teaching, preservation, and promotion of Paraguay’s traditional dances. The ensemble works to safeguard the country’s intangible cultural heritage while ensuring its relevance for new generations. By placing experienced performers and educators at the centre of the programme, the initiative reinforces the idea of tradition as something dynamic, continuously evolving through practice, participation, and shared experience.
Open and accessible participation
Participation is open to all interested individuals from the age of 12, with prior registration required through an online form. Asunción’s cultural calendar continues to expand with initiatives that prioritise access and community engagement. In this context, the free Paraguayan dance workshops stand out as an opportunity to connect with Paraguayan identity through movement, in a setting that values both tradition and personal discovery. Additionally, the Asunción Municipality seeks dancers for a new folkloric group.
