The August edition of the ORE Indigenous Art and Craft Fair will take place on 8 and 9 August 2026. The fair offers visitors the chance to discover and purchase handmade works from Indigenous artisans across Paraguay. Organised by the Paraguayan Institute of Handicrafts (IPA), the free event will run from 09:00 to 20:00 at Espacio Cultural Staudt, located at Iturbe 333, corner of Mariscal Estigarribia, in downtown Asunción. The fair aims to promote Indigenous craftsmanship, encourage fair trade, and strengthen the economic sustainability of artisan communities.
Indigenous heritage
First launched in 2019, ORE has grown into one of Paraguay’s leading platforms for showcasing Indigenous art and preserving ancestral knowledge. More than a marketplace, the fair serves as an intercultural meeting point. Visitors can learn about the traditions, worldviews, and artistic expressions of the country’s Indigenous peoples.
The event typically brings together representatives from more than 15 Indigenous communities, including the Aché, Ayoreo, Enxet Sur, Enlhet Norte, Ishir, Maká, Manjui, Mbyá Guaraní, Nivaclé, Pai Tavyterã, Qom, and Sanapaná people. By allowing artisans to sell directly to the public, ORE helps ensure that the proceeds benefit the communities without intermediaries.
Traditional crafts and family activities
Visitors will find a wide range of handcrafted products. These include woven baskets, feather art, textiles made from caraguatá fibre and cotton, hand-carved palo santo wood sculptures, jewellery, and traditional accessories. Each piece reflects techniques and cultural traditions passed down through generations.
Previous editions have also featured live music, dance performances, artisan demonstrations and workshops. The fair creates a family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates Paraguay’s Indigenous heritage. In addition to supporting local artisans, it offers an opportunity for people to gain a deeper appreciation of the country’s cultural diversity. Admission is free throughout the two-day event.
