Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, he has been to George’s Cheesesteaks – Lomitos American Style, an establishment located in Los Laureles, directly in the Food Park.
Los Laureles Food Park is a big exterior food court where you can eat a little bit of everything. There is a playground area for those with children, making it very family-friendly. I went to the Food Park a couple of times last year and returned again this year. So far, I have never had any bad experiences there. Around a month ago, some expatriate friends introduced me to George’s excellent American-style restaurant.
George’s Cheesesteaks – Lomitos American Style offers authentic cheesesteaks and American- style fusion lomitos. And, indeed, good old beer. The first time I ate there, I wanted to try the Pizza Cheesesteak. It contains beef, onions, green bell peppers, tomato sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese. Recently, I got a classic, the Philly Cheesesteak, which contains beef, sautéed onions, and cheese. No matter which sub I take at George’s Cheesesteaks, I always take a plate of curly fries and beers. It is excellent. The meat is well-cooked, and the cheese melts in your mouth. I usually do not eat onions apart than when they are in … a cheesesteak! I was not deceived. With a South American touch to his North American-style food offering, it brings something unique to Paraguay. His menu would rival Angelo’s Pizzeria, John’s Roast Pork, Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks in Philadelphia.
The establishment is in the food park, which is administered collectively by an entity. Multiple employees are there cleaning the area for the restaurants while there are security personnel around to make this place a safe environment. It is exactly like a mall food court but exterior. With the toilets on one side and the playground in the middle, you have everything you need. As for George’s Cheesesteaks, he and his employees are very friendly and polite. There or elsewhere, you should try a food park in Paraguay or South America.
As for the price, it is good. All the cheesesteaks for adults are in between 35 and 45K Guaraníes. You can have the fries for 10K Guaraníes if you take food as a combo. If you take fries apart, they are between 13 and 40K Guaraníes, the highest options being cheesy fries with steaks that can be a whole lunch. They also have regular fries, curly ones, and manioc sticks. If you have children, you can have a sandwich for kids (half-size) at 28K Guaraníes, which includes a fry. For beverages, you can get a beer at 25K, a chop at 20K, cocktails at 15K, cola at 10K, water and juice at 5K Guaraníes.
The restaurant is located in Los Laureles Food Park, on R.I. 18 Pitiantuta. If you come from the south on Eusebio Ayala, you can go north on Pitiantuta and reach it soon. If you come from the north on Mariscal López, you can go south on the same street. However, if you come from an area close to Avenida España, you need to reach the area by taking either Avenida Madame Lynch or San Martín and then take López and R.I. 18. The food park and George’s Cheesesteaks are open six days a week from 6 PM. They close around midnight, and sometimes later.
