Asunción’s Calle Palma (Palma street) will host a special edition of the Palma Fair (Feria Palmear) on Saturday 10 October 2026, with a focus on Taiwanese culture. The event is scheduled to mark “Double Ten Day”, the National Day of Taiwan and will feature a wide array of attractions, including gastronomy, cultural activities, and information on educational opportunities.
The fair will run for twelve hours, from 11:00 to 23:00. It will transform the pedestrianised street into a vibrant cultural hub for the day. Visitors can expect more than 30 stalls offering authentic Taiwanese food, alongside games and other family-friendly activities designed to showcase the nation’s heritage.
A celebration of Double Ten Day
The event commemorates the 115th anniversary of Taiwan’s National Day, also known as Double Ten Day. This date marks the beginning of the Wuchang Uprising on 10 October 1911, which led to the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The special edition of Feria Palmear aims to share this significant cultural occasion with the Paraguayan public.
The fair serves as an opportunity for residents of Asunción to engage directly with Taiwanese culture. The day is intended to foster greater understanding and exchange between the two nations through an immersive experience of its food, traditions, and academic prospects.
Educational opportunities highlighted
In addition to the cultural festivities, a dedicated space will provide information about scholarships available for study in Taiwan. This initiative aims to present local visitors with the various academic and training opportunities offered by the country. Taiwan has a long-standing scholarship programme for Paraguayan students, covering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various fields.
The Palma Fair is a recurring event on Palma street in downtown Asunción, part of a broader initiative to revitalise Asunción’s historic centre by creating a regular meeting point for citizens with cultural and commercial activities. This special edition builds on that successful model, combining the fair’s popular format with a unique international theme.
