Thousands of people flocked the centre of Asunción to celebrate Paraguay’s Independence Day in the midst of a lively and multicultural atmosphere. The capital was home to a variety of events throughout the day, and one of them was the Feria de Sabores food fair.
A Taste of the World
Organised by the Centro Cultural de la República El Cabildo along with several foreign embassies, the Flavour Fair (Feria de Sabores), allowed visitors a chance to sample local delicacies and drinks from across the world. The Juan de Salazar park was flanked by shared tables, above which strangers became friends, savouring dishes of global cuisine, accompanied by live music and lively dance performances.
“A nice celebration of not only our independence but also the diversity of our world,” said one of the people enjoying the fair.
Independence Day 2025
Just a few blocks away, a colourful public fair filled with the products of local entrepreneurs was teeming with activity. Local entrepreneurs were selling handicrafts, clothing, books, cosmetics, and accessories from a dozen or so stands, allowing small entrepreneurs to present their products to thousands of visitors who had flocked to the capital for the day.
The Pantheon of Heroes (Panteón de los Héroes), the city landmark, remained open for the occasion. It was an opportunity for numerous people to reflect on the nation’s history and honour the nation’s heroes who fought for Paraguay’s independence, declared on 14 and 15 May 1811.

Music and magic as the night fell
As the sun set, the celebrations did not subside. More live concerts packed the evening with energy, drawing masses from Asunción and nearby cities. Local artists like Juan Cancio Barreto, the Jazz Band from Policía Nacional, and the band Tierra Adentro took their turn on stage, and families gathered in parks and plazas to enjoy the festive night surrounded by the stars.
The next day, many other interesting activities were held. A sightseeing tour called Domes of Asunción (Cúpulas de Asunción) was organised by SENATUR, the National Secretary of Tourism, where people visited different domes around the area.
Independence Day 2025 celebration seamlessly merged tradition and innovation, honouring the past while trumpeting cultural exchange and communal values.
